Do you want to convert an Excel document to a Word document? Excel has no function for converting Excel file to Word file and Word cannot open Excel files directly. Method 1 of 2: Copying and pasting Excel data into Word

  1. Copy the Excel data. In Excel, select the content you want to move to Word by clicking and dragging, then press Ctrl + C..

  6. Create a linked Excel table. Word has a feature that allows you to link to other Office files. This means that if you make a change to the Excel file, the copied table will be updated in Word. Click Link and keep source formatting or Link and use target styles to create a linked Excel table.
    • These two options correspond to the style sources of the other two paste options.
  7. Click Keep Text Only to paste the Excel data without any formatting.
    • When using this option, each row will have its own paragraph, with the column data separated by tabs.

Method 2 of 2: Inserting an Excel chart in Word

  1. In Excel, click on a chart to select it and then press Ctrl + C. to copy it.
  2. In Word, press Ctrl + V. to paste the diagram.
  3. Choose your paste options. In the bottom right corner of the table, click Paste Options.
    • Unlike pasting Excel data, when pasting a chart, there are two different sets of options to choose from. Chart data options and formatting options.
  4. Click Chart (linked to Excel data) so that the chart will be updated when the Excel file is updated.
  5. Click Excel Excel Chart (Whole Workbook) to open the Excel file from within the chart itself.
    • To open the Excel file from the diagram, right-click on the diagram, then click Edit data. The source file of will be opened.
  6. Click Image to paste the chart as a regular image which will not be updated if anything in the source file is changed.
