Want to delete an incriminating recent search that pops up every time you click Safari's address bar? You can quickly delete all recent searches regardless of version of Safari. If you have an iOS device, you can clear your recent searches by deleting all your browsing history. Note: Deleting your search history is different from removing your browsing history. Your search history is everything you've entered in the search bar, while your browsing history is a record of all the websites you've visited. To delete your browsing history, click here.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Mac

  1. Open Safari. You can delete your recent searches from the Safari browser.
  2. Click on the address bar. If you have an older version of Safari with a separate search bar, click the search bar instead.
  3. Delete all URLs currently in the bar. This should ensure that your recent searches are displayed.
  4. Click "Clear Recent Searches" at the bottom of the list.
    • This only clears your recent searches. If you want to delete all browsing history, click here.
  5. Delete a single search. If you just want to remove just a single search from the history, you can do this from the Bookmarks view.
    • Click the Bookmarks button or press ⌥ Opt+⌘ Cmd+2.
    • Search for the listing you want to delete.
    • Select the entry and press Del or right-click and select "Delete".

Method 2 of 2: iOS

  1. Open the Settings app. The only way to delete the search history in Safari for iOS is to delete all browsing history.
  2. Tap "Safari". This option can be found under the "Maps" option.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Clear History and Website Data". You will be asked to confirm the deletion by tapping "Delete" or "Delete".
    • This will delete all your browsing history, cache and recent search history.
