Ubuntu has built-in alternative keyboard layouts that you can quickly switch between. Just activate the layouts you want to use and then switch to another layout using a menu or a keyboard shortcut.

To step

1. Click the "Settings" button in the top right corner of the screen. This will open the On / Off and Settings menu.
2. Select "System Settings".
3. Click on "Text Entry". It can also be called "Language & Text" or "Keyboard Layout".
4. Click the "+" below the list of installed keyboard layouts.
5. Choose the format you want to add to Ubuntu.
6. click on Add to add it to your format list.
7. Note the keyboard shortcuts. The shortcut keys "Switch to next source" and "Switch to previous source" allow you to quickly scroll through your activated layouts. You can select any and set a shortcut for it.
   • Note: If you are using a Windows keyboard, the "Super" key is usually assigned to the key ⊞ Win.
8. Change your layout. After activating the hot keys, there are two ways to change the layout of the keys:
   • Click the language button in the Ubuntu main menu and select the format from the list you want to use.
   • Press the shortcut you assigned to scroll through the layouts.
9. Click the language button and select the test profile. This will give you an overview of which keys on your keyboard are assigned which characters.
