This wikiHow teaches you how to check how much RAM (Random Access Memory) your computer or iPad has. RAM is partly responsible for keeping computer programs running smoothly.

Method 1 of 3: In Windows

1. Click on Start Open Settings click on System. This is a laptop-shaped icon in the top left corner of the window.
2. Click on the tab Info. This tab can be found in the lower left corner of the System window. A list of information about your computer will now open.
3. See what it says next to "Installed RAM". This heading can be found under the "Device Specifications" section in the center of the page. The number to the right of "Installed RAM" indicates how much RAM is installed on your computer.
4. Check how much RAM your computer is using. If you want to see how your computer is using the RAM or how much RAM is being used at any given time, you can use the Task Manager program.

1. Open the App Store Search for the Smart Memory Lite app. Tap the search bar at the top right corner of the screen, then type smart memory lite. After that, tap on the blue button with the text Search in the lower right corner of the keyboard.
   • If you don't see the search bar, first make sure you have the correct tab in front of you by tapping in the bottom left corner of the screen Featured.
2. Look for the name Smart Memory Lite. You should see the name somewhere at the top of the search results page.
3. Tap on DOWNLOAD. This can be found to the right of the Smart Memory Lite app.
4. Enter your Touch ID when prompted. Scan the finger you use for your Touch ID to download the app on your iPad.
   • If you're using an iPad without Touch ID, tap to install at the bottom of the screen and enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
5. Open the Smart Memory Lite app. Tap on OPEN in the App Store when the app has finished downloading or tap the Smart Memory Lite app icon, which is shaped like a computer chip.
6. Check the RAM of your iPad. In the lower right corner of the screen you will see a circle with a number in it. This indicates how much RAM is installed on your iPad in total.
   • Unlike most computers, you cannot install extra RAM on an iPad.
7. Check how much RAM your iPad is using. The blue, red, green and gray bar near the bottom of the screen shows how much RAM is being used, how much RAM is being used permanently, how much RAM is free and how much RAM the system is using.
   • On the right side of the screen, you can see the percentages of your iPad's RAM usage.

Tips

• The Smart Memory Lite app is available for iPads and iPhones.
• RAM, also called "working memory", is not the same as the memory of your hard drive. The hard disk is intended for permanent storage of data.
• You can also check how much space is left on your computer's hard drive.

Warnings

• 32-bit versions of operating systems can only use up to 4 GB of RAM. So it is a waste of money to install more RAM.
