This wikiHow teaches you how to create and use haunted books in Minecraft to improve your stuff.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Making a haunted book

  1. Gather the necessary materials. To make a haunted book you will need the materials for the following items:
    • Workbench - Four wooden crates, which you make from a block of wood.
    • Book - Three pieces of paper, which you make from three pieces of sugar cane and one piece of leather.
    • Enchantment table - Two diamonds, four blocks of obsidian and a book.
  2. Open your inventory. Here you should see your crafting items.
    • In Minecraft PE, press the ...icon to open your inventory.
  3. Make a workbench. To do this, use the four wooden crates you made by placing a block of wood in the creation grid.
    • In the PC version of Minecraft, drag all four logs one by one to the two-by-two creation grid at the top of your inventory.
    • In Minecraft PE, click on the tab above the tab of your inventory, on the left side of the screen. Then click on the workbench icon, which looks like a box with lines on it.
    • On the console, press the "Create" button (X or a circle) and then on the wooden crate.
  4. Place your workbench on the floor. To do this, you have to select it from the hotbar at the bottom of the screen.
    • If your hotbar is already full, you will first need to open your inventory and replace one of the items in the hotbar with your workbench.
  5. Open your workbench. A three-by-three grid will appear along with the contents of your inventory (PE and PC versions only).
  6. Make a book. To do this you need to place three pieces of sugarcane in the middle row of the creation grid, select the resulting piece of paper and then place the three pieces of paper in an L shape in the top left corner of the creation grid. Your leather has to be placed in the middle box at the top, so that it fills the L-shape.
    • In Minecraft PE all you have to do is click the book icon on the left side of the screen and then click the button on the right 1 x [book].
    • In the console version of Minecraft, you can select a book's icon from the paper section of the "Decorations" tab.
  7. Make an enchantment table. To make an enchantment table, you will need a book in the middle box at the top of the creation grid, a diamond in both the middle box on the left and right, and obsidian in the central box and all of the bottom row. You should see the enchantment table icon appear on the right side of the creation grid.
    • On consoles, you can select the Enchantment Table through the section of the "Constructs" tab reserved for the use of the Workbench.
  8. Place the enchantment table on the ground. You do this in the same way as you placed the workbench.
  9. Open the enchantment table. An empty box will appear in which you can place your book.
  10. Place the book on the table. You do this by simply dragging the book to the empty space (PC).
    • In Minecraft PE you have to click on the book on the left side of the screen to place it in the table.
    • On consoles, you must select the book in your inventory.
  11. Select an enchantment. The level of spells you can cast on your book depends on your own level. Selecting a spell applies it to your book, turning it purple.
    • For example, if you have reached level 3, you can use any enchantment marked with a 1, 2 or 3.
    • Enchantments are applied randomly, so you will not be able to choose a specific enchantment.
  12. Select your book. This will place it in your inventory. Now that you have an enchanted book, it is time to apply it to an object.
    • In Minecraft PE you have to double click on your book to put it in your inventory.

Part 2 of 2: Enchanting an object

  1. Gather the materials needed for an anvil. To make an anvil you will need the following items:
    • Three blocks of iron - For each block of iron you need nine bars of iron, so a total of 27 bars of iron.
    • Four bars of iron - With these bars you use a total of 31 bars of iron.
    • You make bars of iron by putting iron ore (the gray stone with the orange-brown spots) in a furnace that contains coal.
  2. Open your workbench. As before, once you open the workbench, you will see a three-by-three grid.
  3. Make an anvil. You do this by placing the three blocks of iron on the top row of the grid of the workbench, three of the four bars of iron on the bottom row and the last bar of iron in the center of the grid. Then you have to click on the anvil icon.
    • In the PE version of Minecraft, the black anvil icon appears on the left side of the screen.
    • In the version of Minecraft for consoles, you will find an anvil icon under the "Buildings" tab.
  4. Place your anvil on the ground. You have now made all the preparations to create an enchanted item.
  5. Open the anvil's menu. You will see three lofts appear.
  6. Place the item you want to enchant in it. You can place it in the left cage or the middle cage.
    • For example, you can place a sword in it.
  7. Place your enchanted book in it. You have to place it in the left or middle loft.
  8. Select the item you want to place in the output bin. This is the right box in the anvil menu. This will add your enchanted item to your inventory.

Tips

  • Certain spells cannot be placed on certain objects (for example, you cannot cast "Chastisement" on a helmet).
  • You can gain experience by killing enemies.
  • Sometimes you come across an enchanted book hidden in a chest. It is also possible that villagers can sell you enchanted books.
  • The Roman numeral to the right of the spell's name indicates its strength, on a scale from one to four ("I" to "IV"), where "I" is the weakest level and "IV" the most powerful.
