This wikiHow teaches you how to install apps from the Google Play Store on your Android phone or tablet.

To step

1. Tap the Apps icon. You can find this at the bottom of your home screen. It usually looks like several dots or small squares in a circle.
2. Scroll down and tap Play Store. The icon is a multicolored triangle on a white suitcase.
   • When you first open the Play Store, you will need to enter your Google account information and payment information. When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Enter an app name or keyword in the search box. It's at the top of the screen.
   • For example, you can wikihow to search for the wikiHow app, or photos to browse different photo apps.
   • If you're just browsing, skip the search. Instead, scroll down and check out the Play Store's categories, charts, and suggestions.
4. Tap the search button. This is the key that resembles a magnifying glass in the lower right corner of the keyboard.
5. Select an app from the search results. This will take you to the detail page where you can read the description of the app and view user reviews and screenshots.
   • Many apps have similar names, so your search may return multiple results. Apps in the search result appear on their own "tiles," each with the app's icon, developer, star rating, and price.
6. Tap INSTALL. This is the green button just below the name of the app. If the app is not free, the green button will indicate the price of the app instead of "INSTALL" (for example, "$ 2.49").
   • When you download an app that costs money, you may need to confirm your Google account password.
7. Tap OPEN. When installation is complete, the "INSTALL" button (or the price) changes to an "OPEN" button. Tapping it will launch your new app for the first time.
   • To open the new app in the future, tap the Apps icon on your home screen, then tap the new app icon.

Tips

• Try to read some reviews before installing an app. You can learn a lot of valuable information such as whether an app has a lot of ads, is unsuitable for kids, etc.
• The Play Store improves your app recommendations while you keep downloading apps. To view your recommendations, open the Play Store and scroll down to "Recommended for you".
