This article will teach you how to take control of your Android by blocking the downloads of certain apps (including automatic updates) and how to avoid getting notifications from apps.

Method 1 of 3: Block app downloads from the Play Store

1. Open the Play Store Press ≡ in the top left corner of the screen.
2. Scroll down and press Settings at the bottom of the menu.
3. Scroll down and press Parental supervision.
4. Set the switch to Enter a PIN and press OK. Choose something you will remember, as you will need this code in the future to bypass this control.
5. Confirm the PIN and press OK. Parental controls are now enabled.
6. Press Apps & games. A list of age groups will appear.
7. Select an age limit. This depends on what you want people to download. App developers enter these age limits when they add apps to the Play Store.
   • For example, if you want to block apps with adult content, but are okay with teen content, select "Teen".
   • To block apps that are not suitable for everyone, select "Everyone".
8. Press to confirm OK. This post simply lets you know that downloads of apps from the Play Store will be limited in the future according to your selection.
9. Press SAVE. Now that you have parental controls enabled, users of this Android will no longer be able to install apps from the Play Store that are not suitable for their age group.
   • To turn off these restrictions, go back to the Parental Controls screen and turn on the switch Open the Play Store Press ≡ in the top left corner of the screen.
   • Scroll down and press Settings at the bottom of the menu.
   • Press Automatically update apps. A pop-up menu will appear.
   • Press Do not update apps automatically. This is the first option in the list. Updates to apps will no longer be automatically downloaded.
     • To manually update an app, open the Play Store, press "≡", select "My apps & games" and then press "UPDATE" next to the app name.

Method 3 of 3: Block notifications from apps

1. Open the Settings Scroll down and press Apps.
2. Tap the app with notifications you want to block. This will open the app's information screen.
3. Scroll down and press notifications.
4. Slide the "Block All" switch to . This app will now no longer be allowed to send notifications, new messages or activity.
