Aloe vera is an incredibly versatile plant - in addition to being used for skin care, it is an ideal product to apply to your hair! It is packed with vitamins, amino acids and minerals, which promote hair growth, soothe a flaky scalp and moisturize dry strands. Use it as a conditioner after shampooing your hair, apply it to your roots to promote hair growth, or make a lovely mask for a relaxing day at home at the spa.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Condition your hair with aloe vera

  1. Put half of your favorite conditioner in an empty bottle or bottle. Use an extra plastic bottle or a resealable mason jar to keep the remaining half of the conditioner. Keep this in a safe place so you can use it later and make a second batch of aloe vera conditioner.
    • Mixing up a batch of aloe vera conditioner will save you money. After all, it takes twice as long before you have to buy a new product again.
  2. Use a funnel to pour and fill the aloe vera gel into the half-empty bottle. You may be able to put the gel in with the help of a spoon, but if the mouth of the bottle is narrow, it is easier to use a funnel. In general, you should try to turn your conditioner bottle into a 1: 1 aloe on conditioner mixture, but it's fine if the proportions are a little off.
    • Use fresh aloe vera gel, which you can purchase at your local health food store, or harvest the aloe vera gel yourself if you have a plant at home.
  3. Shake the bottle so that the aloe vera gel and conditioner mix completely. Put the lid back on the bottle and shake vigorously several times until everything is mixed. Test the product by putting some in your hand - if it comes out mainly aloe, you should shake it longer to mix it better.
    • Always shake the conditioner before use, in case any of the ingredients have settled to the bottom.
  4. Apply the conditioner after shampooing your hair and leave it on for two minutes. After you wash your hair, apply the conditioner and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it. It could take a week or two for you to notice any difference, but soon the aloe should be doing its job.
    • Aloe vera helps you get rid of dandruff and flaking, and it also heals hair damaged by heat or chemicals.

Method 2 of 3: Using aloe vera gel for hair growth

  1. Apply aloe vera gel directly to your scalp. Put 2 or 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) of aloe vera gel on your fingertips. Massage the gel onto your scalp - don't forget to do the back of your hair too!
    • You can buy aloe vera gel or harvest it yourself if you have an aloe vera plant at home.
  2. Leave the aloe vera gel on your scalp for one hour. You don't have to cover your hair with a towel or shower cap - set a timer for an hour and continue with your activities.
    • If you want to lie down, you can wrap a towel around your head to keep the aloe vera gel on your scalp, although it wouldn't be a problem if it rubbed off somewhere.
  3. Shampoo the aloe vera gel and then apply conditioner to your hair as normal. After the hour has passed, wash and condition your hair as usual. For extra conditioning, use an aloe vera conditioner that will also stimulate hair growth.
    • Avoid using very hot instruments if you are trying to stimulate hair growth as this can damage the hair follicle.
  4. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week for best results. If you are trying to stimulate new hair growth, repeat this process several times a week. Make it part of your nighttime routine before going to bed.
    • Combine the scalp treatment with a weekly hair mask for shiny and smooth hair.

Method 3 of 3: Mix an aloe vera and coconut hair mask

  1. Place 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) of aloe vera gel in a bowl. For such a small amount of aloe vera gel, you only need about 5 to 7 cm of an aloe leaf if you harvest it yourself.
    • If you don't have fresh aloe vera at home, you can always buy aloe vera gel at the health food store.
  2. Mix the aloe vera with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) virgin coconut oil. Use coconut oil that is at room temperature for the easiest results - it is easier and faster to process with the aloe vera gel. Use a spoon to mix the ingredients until they form a smooth paste.
    • If your hair needs a little extra conditioning, you can also add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of honey.
  3. Use your fingers to apply the gel from the center of your hair length. Continue to apply the mask to the ends of the hair and then go back up and massage it into your scalp as well. Continue to apply until everything is covered. If you have very long hair, you may need to double the recipe amounts.
    • Start from the center and make sure to smooth the mask over all of your hair and not get onto the scalp, which could make it look oily.
    • You may need to massage the coconut oil and aloe vera gel with your fingers for a few minutes to warm it up so that it is easier to spread.
    • Wear an old t-shirt that you wouldn't mind spilling a bit, in case some mask gets on your clothes.
  4. Wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel or put on a shower cap. This is mainly to protect your clothes and furniture while the mask is working, but the warm and damp towel can also help give your hair a little extra moisturizing power, and it will keep the mask moist.
    • If you don't cover your hair, the mask on your hair may harden and it might not work as well.
  5. Let the mask penetrate your hair for 40 to 45 minutes. Set a timer or turn on the TV and watch a few episodes of your favorite show and relax! The mask does all the work itself.
    • Don't leave the mask on for more than two hours or it will dry out for sure.
  6. Wash your hair as normal after the time is up. As soon as your timer goes off, shower and wash your hair to rinse the mask completely. You will notice that your hair feels a lot smoother and softer.
    • You don't need a conditioner after this!
    • Apply this mask once a week to keep your hair nicely conditioned.
