Recently uTorrent introduced sponsored ads in version 3 of its torrent applications. What many people don't realize is that these ads are optional and can be turned off in the preferences. Take the following steps and you can use the latest version of uTorrent with no ads! This method also works for BitTorrent users.

To step

1. Open the uTorrent application.
   
   Select the "Advanced" option from the list on the left side of the preference window.
2. You will now see a box with a long list of advanced options in the center of the window. Scroll down and select "gui.show_plus_upsell" - or use the filter function to find it.
3. At the bottom of the box you will see an option to change this value to "True" or "False". Select the value "False". (This option disables the square ad in the lower left corner of the window.)
4. Scroll further down and click on "offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled" to select it, and select the value "False" below the box.(This option disables the banner at the top of the torrent list.)
5. Likewise, set the following options to false (or check if they are already false): "offers.left_rail_offer_enabled", "offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled", "gui.show_notorrents_node", "offers.content_offer_autoexec".
6. Click on "OK" and close the uTorrent application via the file menu, or right click on the uTorrent logo in the tray and select "Exit" to close it completely.
7. Open the uTorrent application and you can start using uTorrent without those annoying ads!

Tips

• Note that the options in uTorrent 3.2.3 are slightly different from the first options shown in the screenshots above, "sponsored_torrent_offer ..." is now found under "offers.sponsored_torrent_offer ...".
• Disable the default control "Automatically Install Update" in the general section. This is not to incur the ire of you should you decide to download torrents from private sites, as these sites normally ban all torrent clients and all versions except a limited list. It may therefore happen that you can NOT download anything after an update.
• Note that by default, if the "x" is pressed, uTorrent will not close but the tray will close, allowing downloads and seedings to run in the background. uTorrent will first have to shut down and restart for this change to take effect.

Warnings

• Be careful about adjusting the advanced options in uTorrent, such as changing the wrong options, as this can cause problems with the application.
