• Part 2 of 2: Possible problems with SIM activation

1 Turn off the power of the smartphone. Hold the power button until the Power Off slider appears at the top of the screen, which you need to slide to the right.

• In most cases, the power button is located at the top of the right edge of the iPhone, although in older models it is located on the top edge of the device.

2 Make sure your SIM card is the right size. Over time, SIM cards are getting smaller and older iPhones may not support new cards (and vice versa). Make sure the SIM card size fits your iPhone.

• IPhone 5 and above use card format nano-SIM (12.3 x 8.8 mm).
• IPhone 4 and 4S use card format micro SIM (15 x 12 mm).
• IPhone 3G, 3GS, and 1st generation models use standard SIM (25 x 15 mm).

3 Locate the SIM card slot on the side of the iPhone. On most iPhone models, the SIM card tray is in the middle of the right edge.

• For iPhone 3G, 3GS, and the first generation, the tray is on the top of the device.
• A SIM tray is included in all iPhone models, except iPhone 4 CDMA.

4 Find a SIM ejecting clip or straighten a small paper clip. Today, many smartphones come with a SIM eject clip, which looks like a pointed object and allows you to open the tray. If the included paper clip is lost, you can straighten a regular paper clip.

5 Insert the end of a paper clip into the small hole next to the tray. A little effort will be enough to remove the tray.

6 Remove the entire tray from the smartphone. Be careful not to damage the SIM card and the tray itself.

7 Remove the old card and insert a new SIM card. Due to the notch on the card, it can only be installed in one position. If in doubt, place it in the same way as the old card was (contacts facing down).

8 Insert the tray into iPhone. The tray can only be inserted in one way.

• Make sure the tray is fully inserted into the iPhone.

9 Hold down the power button. Turn your iPhone back on. The smartphone should connect to the network automatically, although sometimes the card needs to be activated.

Part 2 of 2: Possible problems with SIM activation

1. 1 Connect to a wireless network. Depending on the tariff package, sometimes you need to connect to Wi-Fi to activate the card.
2. 2 Connect iPhone to iTunes on computer. If you can't activate iPhone over Wi-Fi, you can activate via a computer connection. Follow these steps:
   • Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB charging cable. Launch iTunes if it doesn't open automatically.
   • Wait for iTunes to activate your SIM card.
3. 3 Restore your iPhone. If the smartphone does not recognize the SIM card, then restore the iPhone to activate the card after restarting the device.
4. 4 Call the operator from another phone. If you cannot activate a new SIM card in any way, then try calling your mobile operator (MTS, Beeline, Megafon). Give your card details and find out the reasons for the problem. If you cannot diagnose the causes by phone, then you will have to take the smartphone to the operator's service center to resolve the problem.
