In this article, we'll show you how to enable location service on iPhone so apps can know where you are.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: How to enable location service

  1. 1 Launch the Settings app. Click the gear-shaped icon on the Home screen or in the Utilities folder.
    • If you don't see this icon, swipe down from the top of your Home screen and type "Settings" in the Spotlight search bar.
  2. 2 Click on Privacy. You will find this option at the bottom of the third group of options.
  3. 3 Click Location Services. You will be taken to the geolocation service page.
  4. 4 Move the slider next to Location Services to the "On" position. A list of applications will appear on the screen.
    • If the slider is not active, the location service is disabled in the "Restrictions" menu. In this case, go to the next section.
  5. 5 Click on an app to geolocate it. When you touch an app, the geolocation options for that app will open.
    • Select "Never" to completely disable geolocation of this app.
    • Select "When in use" to enable geolocation of the app only when it is running and active.
    • Select "Always" for the app's geolocation to work at any time. This option is only available for some background applications such as Weather.

Part 2 of 2: Troubleshooting

  1. 1 Launch the Settings app. If you are unable to enable the location service, it is disabled in the "Restrictions" menu. You can remove the restriction through the "Settings" application.
  2. 2 Select General. This option is in the third group of parameters.
  3. 3 Click Restrictions. If restrictions are enabled, you will be prompted for a password.
    • If you do not remember the restrictions password, enter 1111 or 0000.
    • If the password does not fit, reset the device settings via iTunes. Before doing this, back up important data.
  4. 4 Scroll down and click Location Services Settings. This option is under the "Privacy" section.
  5. 5 Select Allow. You can now enable location services.
  6. 6 Move the slider next to Location Services to the "On" position. You will find this option under "Allow".
