This article will show you how to install Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on your computer or console. Although the original version of GTA: San Andreas was only available for Windows computers and the PlayStation 2 console, you can install the updated version of GTA: San Andreas on your computer, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you are ready to change your computer compatibility settings, the original version of GTA: SA can be installed on a Windows computer.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Using Steam on a Computer

1. 1 Start Steam. Click or double click on the Steam app icon that looks like the Steam logo. The Steam home page will open if you are already signed in to your Steam account.
   • If you are not yet logged into Steam, enter your email address (or username) and password.
2. 2 Click on the tab Shop. It's in the upper-left side of the Steam window. Steam will open its internal web browser.
3. 3 Click on the search box. It's in the upper right part of the window.
4. 4 Find the Grand Theft Auto game. To do this, enter Grand Theft Auto in the search bar.
5. 5 Click on Grand theft auto san andreas. It's an option in the search results.
6. 6 Enter your date of birth. Click the Day text box and select a day, then repeat with the Month and Year text boxes.
   • If the Grand Theft Auto page opens automatically, skip this step and the next.
7. 7 Click on Open the page. It's a button below the date of birth. You will be taken to the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas page.
8. 8 Scroll down and tap Add to cart.It's the option to the right of Buy Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
9. 9 Click on Buy for yourself. This green button is in the middle of the page.
10. 10 Enter your billing information (if required). If you are asked to enter your bank card number, name, and other information, do so.
    • If Steam stores your payment information, skip this step.
11. 11 Click on Proceed. It's a button at the bottom of the page.
    • You may have to scroll down to see this button.
12. 12 Check the box next to “Agree”. You will find this option at the bottom of the page.
13. 13 Click on Buy. It's an option at the bottom of the page. This will buy Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and download it to your computer.
    • The download time for GTA: SA will depend on your internet connection speed.
14. 14 Start GTA San Andreas. When GTA: San Andreas is downloaded to your Windows or macOS computer, double-click the game's icon, or open Steam and follow these steps:
    • Click on the "Library" tab.
    • Select "Games" from the menu.
    • Click "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" in the left pane.
    • Click "Play" in the main library window.

Method 2 of 4: Using the original GTA San Andreas CD on a computer

1. 1 Go to your Windows computer. While an updated version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is available for Windows and macOS computers, the original version of GTA: San Andreas won't run on a Mac.
   • The computer must have an optical drive (CD drive).
2. 2 Insert the San Andreas CD into your computer. Place the CD in the CD drive tray with the disc label facing up.
3. 3 Open the This PC window. To do this, click "Start" in the lower left corner of the screen, enter this pc and click "This PC".
   • If you are not using Windows 10, the This PC window will be named My Computer. In this case, on the start menu, enter My computer.
4. 4 Right click on the game's CD drive. It's in the Devices and Drives section of the This PC window. A menu will open.
5. 5 Click on Open. It's an option on the menu. A window with the contents of the CD will open.
6. 6 Click on the installation file to highlight it. It has the extension ".exe" (EXE) and is most likely called "setup.exe".
7. 7 Right click on the highlighted installation file. A menu will open.
   • Right-clicking on a file that is not selected will open another menu.
8. 8 Click on Properties. It's an option on the menu. A window with file properties will open.
9. 9 Click on the tab Compatibility. It's at the top of the Properties window.
10. 10 Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for". It's the option in the center of the window.
11. 11 Open the menu under the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" option.
12. 12 Click on Windows XP (Service Pack 3). It's an option on the menu. Enabling this option will ensure that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is installed using the settings for Windows XP (GTA: SA was developed for this operating system), and not the settings for Windows 7/8/10.
13. 13 Click on OK. It's a button at the bottom of the window. The changes are saved and the properties window closes.
14. 14 Double click on the installation file. The game installer window will open.
15. 15 Follow the instructions on the screen. They may differ slightly or appear in a different order, but in most cases, you will need to do the following:
    • Agree to the installation terms.
    • Click Next.
    • Enter the activation code found on the CD box.
    • Click Next.
    • Check the box next to "Finish".
    • Click Next.
    • Click on "Install".
16. 16 Start GTA San Andreas. When the GTA: San Andreas installation process is complete, remove the CD and insert the disc labeled “Play” into your computer. The game GTA: San Andreas will start.
    • You may need to run the .exe file of the "Play" disc in compatibility mode. To do this, change the settings on the Compatibility tab in the same way as for the first disc.
    • When you insert the Play disc into your computer, double-click the GTA: San Andreas desktop shortcut to launch the game.

Method 3 of 4: On Xbox One

1. 1 Go to the Xbox One tab Shop. To do this, press the RB button four times while on the Xbox One home screen.
2. 2 Please select Search. Scroll down to highlight this option and then press "A". The store search bar will open.
3. 3 Find Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. Enter Grand theft auto san andreas... Only one search result should be displayed - "San Andreas".
4. 4 Select "GTA San Andreas". This icon is at the top of the screen. The game page will open.
5. 5 Please select Price. It's on the right side of the screen.
6. 6 Please select Proceed. It's an option at the bottom of the price window.
   • Under normal circumstances, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas costs $ 14.99 (1,000 rubles). This price may differ depending on your location and any current promotions.
7. 7 Please select Confirmwhen prompted. This is how you buy GTA: San Andreas using your Xbox One's primary payment method. The game download process will begin.
   • If prompted, enter your billing information.
8. 8 Start GTA San Andreas. Once San Andreas is downloaded to your console, launch the game by following these steps:
   • Select My Games & Apps.
   • Select the "Games" tab.
   • Select "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas".

Method 4 of 4: PlayStation 4

1. 1 Open the PlayStation Store. From the PlayStation 4 home screen, scroll left, select "PlayStation Store" and press "X".
   • If prompted to update, select Update Now> Next> Update.
2. 2 Please select Search. It's an option at the top of the screen.
3. 3 Find Grand Theft Auto. Enter Grand Theft Auto and wait for the search results to appear on the right side of the screen.
4. 4 Please select Grand theft auto san andreas. It's an option on the right side of your screen. The Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas page will open.
5. 5 Please select Add to cart. It's in the upper-left side of the screen.
6. 6 Please select Checkout. It's under the heading "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas".
7. 7 Please select Checkout. It's an option at the bottom of the screen.
8. 8 Select a Payment Method. In the list of payment methods at the top of the screen, highlight the one you want to use, then press X.
   • If you don't have a payment method yet, add it.
9. 9 Please select Confirm purchase. It's an option on the right side of your screen. This will buy the game and the process of downloading it to your console will begin.
   • Once GTA: SA is downloaded to your console, select the game from the PlayStation 4 home page and launch it.

Tips

• The original version of GTA: San Andreas was created for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. To play this version, simply insert the GTA: SA disc into your PlayStation 2 and wait for the game to load.

Warnings

• It is illegal to download GTA: San Andreas (or any other paid game) for free.
• In most cases, you will not be able to run the original version of GTA: San Andreas on your computer without making some changes to the compatibility settings.
