- transparent glue for glass;
- wine glasses;
- cardboard;
- paper plate;
- masking tape;
- large brush;
- dry glitter;
- scissors;
- isopropyl alcohol;
- cotton balls;
- ribbon.
- Only apply glitter to the base of the stems of the wine glasses, leaving the rest of the glass clear. You can also paint over the legs of the glasses themselves with sparkles to a height of 1.5-2.5 cm.
- Decorate only the vertical part of the stems with glitter without painting over the rest of the glass.
- Place glitter initials or numbers on the glasses.
- Draw streaks of glitter all over the glass (or just the stem of the glass).
- Completely paint the glasses with sparkles, leaving only the top 1.5-2.5 cm clean.
- Apply a glitter pattern in two different colors to the glasses.
- Create an ombre effect by smoothing the glitter from one color to another.
- After cleaning the glasses, set them aside for a few minutes to allow the alcohol to evaporate.
- To apply glitter to the base of the stem of the glass, tape over the vertical part of the stem, leaving the base open. You may also want to leave 1.5-2.5 cm open from the bottom of the leg, so you can paint a little glitter on part of the leg itself.
- To decorate only the vertical part of the stem of the glass with sparkles, cover the base with masking tape. Then also tape the bottom of the glass bowl with tape.
- To apply initials or numbers to the glass, you need a stencil for applying glue or a steady hand to write the desired characters by hand with glue.
- To paint stripes on the glass, like the ones that usually decorate a candy cane, simply spiral a long strip of masking tape around the glass. In this case, there must be gaps between the turns of the tape.
- To paint a glass with sparkles of two or more colors, use masking tape to protect any areas that need to remain clean, and apply the first type of glitter to the glass. Then let the glue and glitter dry, then start applying the second color glitter.
- To create an ombre effect, limit the area to be painted from the bottom and top with masking tape and simultaneously work with two colors of glitter between the two strips of tape.
- You can also work with the glue with a sponge brush if you are concerned about glue dripping on the glass. The sponge brush allows the adhesive to be applied more evenly than with a conventional bristle brush.
- Continue pouring the glitter until it has a perfectly even layer of glue.
- When you're done with the glitter, you can pour the remnants back into the bottle. Just take a cardboard box of glitter, bend it slightly to make it look like a funnel, and pour the glitter into the vial.
- If you are going to work with different colors of glitter, you will first need to wait for the first layer of glitter to dry, and then treat the glass with a new layer of glue. After that, sprinkle the glass with other sparkles as you did with the first color.
Part 2 of 3: Shutting Down
- 1 Leave the glasses to dry. The wine glasses will need to stand for about an hour for the glue to dry, but they will have to be left overnight until it is completely dry. Before you can add the finishing touches to your work, the glue on the glasses must be completely dry.
- Remember, if you are going to apply more coats of glue to the glasses, the previous coats must be dry.
- 2 Remove the tape. When the glasses are dry, carefully peel off the masking tape from the glass. Removing the tape leaves a clear line between clean glass and glitter-encrusted glass. Throw away the used tape.
- 3 Cover the glitter with a protective varnish. Now you need to protect the glitter from shedding with another layer of glue or protective acrylic varnish. To protect the decorated glass with glue, take a large brush and use it to apply a layer of glue over the glitter. Then leave the glass to dry for at least an hour.
- If you decide to use a protective varnish in the form of an aerosol, it is wise to go outside to treat the glass with it. Place the glass on a newspaper spread on the ground, and then spray a protective acrylic varnish on the glittering areas of the glass. Then leave the glass to dry for at least an hour.
- 4 Tie the ribbon around the stem of the glass. To add some cute charm to the glass, take a piece of ribbon and tie it around the stem. Tie the ribbon with a bow and straighten it as required. The glass is now ready to use or to be a gift!
Part 3 of 3: Caring for Decorated Glasses
- 1 Start using glasses only when they are completely dry. Glitter may smudge or fall off if the glue is still wet. To ensure the glitter is guaranteed to dry, it is wise to leave it alone overnight. Move them to a dry place out of the reach of children and animals.
- 2 Hand wash your sequined glasses. Glitter on the surface of the glass will be quite brittle, so extra care must be taken to prevent it from falling off when you wash your glasses. It is necessary to wash glasses with sparkles by hand and at the same time, if possible, do not touch the sparkles themselves. Concentrate your efforts on cleaning the inside of the goblet as well as the top rib.
- Do not rub glasses with hard objects. Instead, use a soft sponge and work around the glitter areas. Also, do not wash glasses in the dishwasher.
- 3 Dry the glasses immediately. Do not leave glitter glasses to soak in water. After washing the glasses by hand, be sure to dry them immediately with a soft towel. If moisture remains on the surface of the glass, the glitter may peel off and fall off.
Tips
- Consider using a material such as colored sand instead of glitter.
- Use the same technique to decorate other glass items such as vases or jars.
Warnings
- When using spray paints or protective varnishes, be sure to work in a well-ventilated area.
- Be careful when washing your wine glasses. Do not rub the glass with hard objects. Instead, use a soft sponge and, if possible, bypass the glittering areas.
- Do not apply glitter to the inside of glasses or near the top edge.
