Congratulations! You just won a goldfish at the fair. But how will you care for this tiny creature?

2. 2 Remove the fish from the plastic bag. The bags, by themselves, do not provide her with enough oxygen. Go to your local pet store as soon as possible and buy a tank or aquarium for your fish.
3. 3 Get the largest tank / aquarium you can buy right now. For example, if you can only get a 20 gallon aquarium, go for it. Save money and then get a bigger tank.
   • Some purchased aquariums come with so-called "starter kits", that is, already complete with gravel, decorations, etc. If you only purchase a suitable aquarium (no starter kit), then you will need to purchase some additional items to stimulate your fish. Colorful gravel, decorations, plants, etc. are a great idea.
4. 4 Back home, rinse the aquarium, gravel, decorations, plants, etc. with water.etc.
5. 5 Now equip your aquarium, fill it with tap water, adding the required amount of conditioner. Instructions for use are indicated directly on the bottle itself.
6. 6 Once the aquarium is completely set up, place the bag with the fish in such a way that it can get used to the temperature of the aquarium water without being shocked.
7. 7 After watching the fish for a few minutes, take a net and rinse it with water. Carefully remove your fish from the bag and place it in a new aquarium.

Tips

• Remember to feed your fish daily. Do not overfeed her while feeding. This can lead to flatulence (bloating).
• Always wash your hands before and after feeding your fish. This will prevent disease for both you and your goldfish.
• Once you can afford it, consider buying a few fish. Fish are lonely themselves, but they will play with other fish!
• Generally, goldfish do better with an aerator.
• Just in case, keep your medications on hand at all times.

Warnings

• Change the water once or twice a week, whether you have a filter or not.

• Be careful when you are taking your fish out or into your tank. Do it swiftly and gently.
