If you're bored with an annoying family member or cat friend on Instagram, you'll be delighted to know about the ability to restrict their access to your account! While subscribers cannot be “removed” in the traditional sense of the word, you can still prevent them from viewing your profile. In addition, to prevent unwanted subscribers from appearing in the future, you can make your account private.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Blocking followers

1. 1 Click on Instagram to launch it. If you are sitting at a computer, open the Instagram website.
   • Sign in with your account if you haven't already.
2. 2 Open your profile page. To do this, click on the icon with the image of a person. In the mobile application, this button is located in the lower right corner of the screen.
   • If you are sitting at a computer, the icon will be in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. 3 Click the Subscribers tab. It should be to the right of your profile picture.
4. 4 Browse the list of subscribers. While you can't force a subscriber to unsubscribe from your profile, you can block them, thereby preventing them from monitoring your activities or viewing your account.
5. 5 Click on the subscriber you want to remove. This will take you to his profile page from where you can block him.
6. 6 Open the menu by clicking on the icon with three horizontal dots. It's in the upper right corner of the screen (or to the right of the subscriber's name if you're using a computer).
   • On Android, the dots are vertical, not horizontal.
7. 7 Click "Block User". On Instagram, this item is simply called “Block”. Instagram will then ask you to confirm your decision.
8. 8 Click Yes, I'm sure. After that, the selected user will be blocked and will no longer be able to view your messages!
   • A blocked user will still see your comments under other people's photos and successfully find your account. However, he will not be able to enter it.
   • To view a list of blocked users, open the settings menu and select the Blocked Users tab.
9. 9 Do the same for each annoying subscriber. If you want to prevent unwanted subscribers from appearing in the future, make your account closed. Thus, users who choose to follow your account will not be able to view your profile until you allow them.

Part 2 of 2: Closed Account

1. 1 Open the Instagram app on your phone. Transferring an account to a "closed" status means that anyone who wants to subscribe to your profile will have to send a request, which only you can approve. This gives you tighter control over who accesses your profile.
   • The Private status also restricts users' access to your comments and likes, with the exception of public posts (in which your name will appear next to other "likes", but the account itself remains protected).
   • An account cannot be made private through a computer.
2. 2 Open your profile if you haven't already. To do this, click on the icon in the form of a silhouette of a person in the lower right corner of the phone screen.
   • A tablet is also suitable for these purposes.
3. 3 Open your account settings. Click on the gear (iOS) or the three dots (Android) in the upper right corner of the screen.
4. 4 Scroll down to the "Account" category. Here are the various settings that are specific to your account. Private Account is the last option in this category.
5. 5 Toggle the slider next to Closed Account to On. It should change its color from gray to blue, thus indicating that your account has become closed!
   • To disable this option, just return the slider to its original position and click "OK" in the pop-up window.
   • Please note that your current subscribers will not be affected by this change. If you want to block some or all of them, you will have to do it manually.

Tips

• Blocked users will not be able to see your photos in the "Favorite photo" tab.
• Comments and likes of the blocked user will still be present in your photos, but if you wish, you can delete them manually.

Warnings

• Blocked users will continue to see your likes and comments on the photos of your mutual friends.
