Bathroom tiles are mainly used as decoration. Removing the tiles can damage the drywall or the wall itself. Removing floor tiles can be challenging due to plumbing fixtures like toilets and sinks. Read on to find out how to clean bathroom tiles.

Steps

  1. 1 Create an action plan.
    • If you are removing tiles on walls and floors, decide whether you will start working one section at a time or remove the tiles from the floor first and then the tiles on the walls. Order doesn't matter, but making a plan will save you time.
  2. 2 Prepare your bathroom.
    • Wash the bathroom thoroughly with detergent.
    • Take all unnecessary items out of the room so that they do not interfere with you and, in which case, remain safe and sound.
    • Cover objects that may be hit by falling tiles with a tarp. These include a bathroom, tables and mirrors.
    • Place several large buckets on the floor to place the removed tiles in.
  3. 3 Remove the toilet, sink, and other plumbing fixtures that cover the tiles.
    • Turn off the water supply to the toilet and flush out the water, then use a sponge to remove any remaining water in the tank.
    • Disconnect the toilet bowl from the water supply hose. Remove the screws that secure the toilet to the floor.
    • Rock the toilet to break the wax ring and take it out of the room.
    • Repeat the same for the sink.
  4. 4 Pull out the first tile.
    • Scrape off the construction seam around the first tile. Use a knife to scrape off the concrete between the tiles. The first tile is always the hardest to remove as there is no entry point for it.
    • Insert a putty knife into the crack where the seam was and hammer it under the tile.
    • Press down on the trowel handle to loosen the tile. If all else fails, take the duct tape and stick it on the tile X. Then drill small holes through the duct tape. Then try again to lift the tiles with a spatula. For the best effect, you can hit the spatula with a hammer.
  5. 5 Remove the remaining tiles. Start shooting from the place of the first tile.
  6. 6 Throw the broken pieces of tiles into the buckets that you put in the bathroom.

Tips

  • Plumbing bolts and water supply valves are quite difficult to unscrew. To do this, take a pipe wrench.

Warnings

  • Moving the toilet and sink can be very dangerous and messy.
  • When removing tiles from walls, it is very difficult not to remove pieces of drywall. Be prepared to install new drywall.
  • Always wear protective clothing when handling tools and broken tiles.
