The rice cooker is a fantastic kitchen appliance that can cook more than just rice. If you want to steam, boil, or just cook food and not fiddle with the stove, think outside the box and use a rice cooker.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Boil separately

1. 1 Pour in water. Add about a glass of water to the rice cooker.
2. 2 Insert the steam rack or basket into the rice cooker. Some models of rice cookers have easy-to-use baskets with fasteners.
3. 3 Place the eggs in the basket. Make sure they stand upright with their bottom side down. This will balance the yolks and is ideal for spiced eggs.
4. 4 Place the lid on the rice cooker. It is important not to lift the lid while cooking, otherwise all the steam will evaporate.
5. 5 Boil the eggs. Press the button on the rice cooker and set the cooking time to 20 minutes.

Method 2 of 3: Cooking with Rice

1. 1 Prepare rice. Many Japanese rice growers recommend rinsing the rice before cooking, but this is completely optional.
2. 2 Fill your rice cooker with water. Add half a glass of water or more, depending on how many cups of rice you are cooking.
3. 3 Place the eggs on top of the rice. Make sure they stand upright with their bottom side down. This will balance the yolks and is ideal for spiced eggs.
4. 4 Place the lid on the rice cooker. It is important not to lift the lid while cooking, otherwise all the steam will evaporate.
5. 5 Boil eggs and rice. Press the rice cooker button and cook the rice until cooked through.

Method 3 of 3: Finish Cooking the Eggs

1. 1 Prepare ice water. Pour cold water into a large bowl and add ice cubes until filling to the brim.
2. 2 Remove the eggs from the rice cooker. Use plastic or metal tongs to do this. Take out one at a time. Transfer them immediately to ice water.
3. 3 Serve or store eggs. Let the eggs cool completely in ice water. You can check how cool they are by holding an egg in your hand. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator.
4. 4 Ready.
