Content

The Hangouts app on Google+ allows users to talk, instant messaging, and chat using a camcorder. If you join a conversation or create a conversation in the Hangouts app, it is recorded in a dedicated folder when it ends. Over time, little space is left on your profile, since there is nowhere to record conversations. Here's how to create an archive of saved conversations and messages to free up space on Google+ Hangouts.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Google+ Profile

  1. 1 Open Google+ by entering Plus.google.com in your browser's address bar.
  2. 2 Enter your email address and password, click Login.

Part 2 of 3: Create an archive

  1. 1 Click on the menu in the upper left corner of the page. A list of options will open.
    • For example, if you are on the home page, instead of the word Menu, it says Ribbon.
  2. 2 Select the Hangouts option. A new page will open.
  3. 3 Open the conversation you want to archive. All available conversations will be listed in the panel on the right.
    • Click on the desired conversation, it will open in a small window.
  4. 4 Open the conversation settings by clicking on the gear image in the upper right corner.
  5. 5 Add the conversation to the archive by choosing the Archive option from the menu.

Part 3 of 3: Accessing the Archive

  1. 1 Open the settings in the Hangouts app. In the upper right corner you will see a down arrow, click on it to open the settings.
  2. 2 Open the list of archives by clicking the Hangouts Archive button.
  3. 3 Open the required archive by clicking on it with the mouse. It will open in a new window.

Tips

  • The Hangouts archive doesn't remove conversations from the list, it just saves them to free up space.
  • If you open the archive, it will not disappear anywhere and files will not be extracted from it.
