Do you have an old papasan chair (a round chair shaped like a satellite dish) with or without a leaky pillow? No need to buy a new one! A pillow for such a chair can be made with your own hands, using several old sleep pillows and thick fabric for this. Skip to step 1 to get started.

Steps

  1. 1 If you don't have a papasan chair frame, get one.
  2. 2 Collect the old sleeping pillows from the closet or pantry and wash them. Use only synthetic-filled pillows, not feather pillows. Remove the covers and pillowcases from the pillows. Cut each pillow diagonally. As a result, you will end up with wedge-shaped halves.
  3. 3 Fold 6-8 cushion halves over the chair frame so that they form a circle, completely covering the frame. This will require 6 to 10 pillow fragments (that is, 3-5 complete old pillows), depending on the size of the pillows and how much they shrink after many washes.
  4. 4 Fold the pillow halves over two large pieces of fabric to serve as the sides of the cover. Both sides must be the same, so they can be cut from fabric folded in half. Place fabric and pillows on a flat surface such as the floor. If necessary, trim the outer edges of the cushions to form an even circle.
  5. 5 Cut two layers of fabric in a circle around the folded cushions, about 5 cm away from the edge.
  6. 6 Fold the resulting cloth circles in half, then again and again, folding them eight times as a result and getting one eighth of the circle. Trim the edges so they are as flat as possible, forming a circle.
  7. 7 Sew the edges of the cloth circles together around the perimeter, leaving an opening of about 60 cm for padding.
  8. 8 Turn the resulting cover inside out and fill it tightly with the pillow halves.
  9. 9 Quilt the resulting large pillow at points about 30 cm apart and secure the thread securely. To make it easier to pierce the resulting pillow, try to thread the thread between the halves of the pillows.
  10. 10 Hand sweep the remaining hole with coarse stitches, wrapping the edges inside the pillow. Then jot down it on a typewriter and you're done! You made a "new" pillow for your papasan chair without spending almost or not a dime!

Tips

  • To prevent the pillow from getting dirty, you can make a pillowcase for it from a thick fabric and wash it as needed.
  • When quilting the pillow, you can sew on buttons to prevent tearing of the fabric.

Warnings

  • Dust settles on these pillows pretty quickly, so be careful if you have allergies.
  • Not use feather pillows: when you cut such a pillow, you will not get two halves, but a cloud of fluff and feathers!
