The unicorn costume is a fun and magical costume perfect for a birthday or Halloween party. The unicorn headband is easy to make and works well for a young child's birthday party or casual dress-up play. The horn is the most important element of the unicorn costume, additional elements such as ears and a tail will help complete the outfit.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Converting the Hoodie into a Unicorn Costume

  1. 1 Collect your supplies. Dye the sweatshirt the color you want (pink, purple, or white will work). You will also need pieces of felt in complementary colors such as white and pink, as well as cotton padding, which is available at fabric stores or workshops.
    • You will also need scissors, a sewing machine, a needle, thread, and pins.
    • You can also use a glue gun to attach the various pieces to the hoodie instead of sewing them.
  2. 2 Cut off the pieces of the felt hat for the mane. Cut an equal number of felt items: 9 cm long and 2 cm wide. Cut out enough to cover everything from the crown of the hood (about 10cm from the front top of the hood) to the bottom hem of the hoodie, spreading them out lengthwise.
  3. 3 Attach the felt mane to the hoodie. Fold each piece into a circle, connecting the short ends. Place them about 1 inch (2.5 cm) on top of each other. Pins along the back of the hoodie.
    • Use a zigzag stitch to attach the pieces to the hoodie. You can do this with a sewing machine or by hand.
    • You can also pin these pieces on the inside of the hoodie. This will allow you to reuse the sweatshirt without the unicorn costume details. Cover the pins with duct tape so they don't prick your child if they accidentally open.
  4. 4 Cut out portions of the felt mane. After you have attached the mane to the hood, cut the stitches at the edges with scissors, making 3 cuts along each outline. Then cut each stitch open to give the mane a worn look.
  5. 5 Make your ears. Cut two triangles out of felt of the same color, such as white, and two triangles in a different color, such as pink. White triangles should be about the size of your palm, while pink ones should be smaller.
    • Blend the pink triangle over the white and sew them in the center. Do the same for the remaining pair of triangles.
  6. 6 Sew the ears to the hoodie. Place your ears along the edges of the mane a few cm deeper than the front edge of the hood. Secure them with pins.Try on the hoodie to make sure you fit it correctly. Sew with thread and a needle, or pin on the inside of the hood.
  7. 7 Make a horn. The horn is the main part of the costume. Cut a large triangle out of white felt. The triangle should be several centimeters longer than the head of the hoodie. Fold the triangle lengthwise and sew. It will take the shape of a unicorn horn cone.
    • Fill the horn with cotton. Use a knitting needle or pencil to fill in the resulting cone. Make sure the horn is evenly filled with cotton, but not too clogged with it.
  8. 8 Pin the horn to the center of the hoodie and try on. If you've attached the horn to the correct spot, you can sew it on by hand.
    • Use a patch seam to keep the horn well. Insert the needle from the underside of the hoodie, slide it all over the hoodie and over the felt. Then insert the needle under the very base of the hoodie and twist through the felt. This will create a loop that will hold the horn in place. Sew along the base of the horn.
  9. 9 Craft the tail. Cut long, thin pieces of felt that will reach down to your knees. They can be of different colors. Gather the short ends together and attach them to the center of the back of the hoodie.
  10. 10 Complete the costume. Put it on and zip it up. Complete the suit with matching pants or leggings, shoes and gloves.
    • You can also paint your face to look like a unicorn.

Method 2 of 4: Create a Dream Suit

  1. 1 Collect all materials. Use a vest, headband, and tulle skirt to make a unicorn costume. Dye the vest in bright or bedding colors. Buy 2 meters of tulle. You will also need a waist elastic, a headband, rhinestones, and a glue gun.
  2. 2 Decorate your shirt. Use a glue gun to glue the rhinestones to the vest along the V neckline.
  3. 3 Sew a tulle skirt. Measure your waist and cut the elastic to the appropriate length. Sew the two ends together to form a circle. Cut the tulle to half the length of the skirt.
    • Fold each strip of tulle in half. Tie the strips. The more stripes you add to the elastic, the fluffier the skirt will be.
  4. 4 Make a headband. Cut a large triangle out of the felt. Roll it up in a cone shape and glue it. Attach the cone to the headband with a glue gun.
    • You can also use a tapered piece of styrofoam that you find in stores. Wrap the tulle around the cone and glue with a glue gun.
  5. 5 Complete your outfit. Wear gold leggings and sandals to complete the outfit. Paint your nails the appropriate color.

Method 3 of 4: Create a unicorn headdress

  1. 1 Collect all materials. Complement the costume with horn and ears. To do this, you will need a headband, felt (white and pink), cotton, thick gold thread, and a glue gun. You can find these materials at fabric stores.
    • You can also use a tape or elastic band as a headband, although it may not hold well on your head.
  2. 2 Make a horn. Cut a large triangle out of white felt. The triangle should be about the same height as the headband, and the bottom end of the triangle should be 2 to 3 cm in diameter.
    • Roll the felt into a tapered shape. Use a glue gun to glue the horn. You can also sew a horse horn.
    • Fill the horn with cotton. Use a knitting needle or pencil to fill the horn with cotton.
  3. 3 Wrap the horn with golden spiral thread to make it look magical. Glue one end of the thread to the top of the horn and wind the thread around the horn all the way to the end. Glue the horn.
    • Tighten the gold thread lightly so that you squeeze the horn just a little.
  4. 4 Attach the horn to the headband. Cut a circle out of the felt slightly larger than the bottom of the horn. Place the bandage between the horn and the felt circle. Glue the bandage to the horn and felt.
  5. 5 Cut out the ears. Cut out two sets for the bottom layer of the ears. Use white felt about 3 cm long, folded in half. Don't cut off the bottom layer and when you expand the layers you will end up with two identical shapes. Cut out two more ears from the pink felt, but with one layer. They should be slightly smaller than whites.
  6. 6 Attach the ears to the headband. Attach the white ears on either side of the unicorn's horn. Glue the bottom folded pieces to the bandage. Glue the tops of the ears together. Add pink ears to whites.

Method 4 of 4: Last minutes with the unicorn costume

  1. 1 Make a unicorn horn. Roll a piece of paper into a cone. Trim the bottom of the cone so that it fits well on your head. Attach a tape or elastic to the bottom of the horn. Attach the horn to your head.
    • Decorate the horn with markers, pencils, glitter, or stickers.
    • You can also make a horn with gold or silver hats for the holidays. Unfold the hat and cut 1 to 2 inches (2.5-5 cm). Roll back the hat and ribbons into a cone. Attach an elastic band to the bottom of your hat.
  2. 2 Use white or pastel colors. Wear a long-sleeved tank top and leggings or pants. Wear clothes in white, pink, purple, or other pastel colors. Decorate the shirt with stickers.
  3. 3 Make a tail. To do this, use tape or thread in pastel colors. Cut a few pieces of tape or thread so that they go from your waist to your knees. Tie one end, tie or pin to the back of your pants.
  4. 4 Complete the outfit. Wear black or brown boots as hooves. You can also wear black or brown gloves as front hooves.
