Drawing with melted colored pencils is an easy and fun activity for the artistic adventurer. It's that simple, but the end result can still be amazing. No wonder this trend is all the rage! Here's how to get started on your masterpiece!

Steps

Method 1 of 2: with a hairdryer

  1. 1 Buy supplies. You will need a canvas (size of your choice), colored pencils (quantity depending on the size of the canvas), a glue gun and a hair dryer. It may be worth putting a newspaper, old T-shirt, or blanket underneath the linen in case the wax splashes.
    • Cover the surface you think will be dirty more carefully. And don't forget to cover yourself! Hot colored wax on your skin and clothing is not part of this project.
  2. 2 Sort your pencils. Sort according to what you want. The rainbow is a popular pattern, so if you choose one, place your pencils over the colors of the rainbow. Some people lay out their pencils from light to dark, others use different shades of the same color. The location is entirely up to you.
    • Make sure you have enough pencils to cover the entire top of the canvas. Repeating colors look nice too.
  3. 3 Hot glue each pencil in order to the top of the canvas. Some people do not take off the wrappers, others do, but in any case, everything will work out.
    • Some people prefer to unfold their pencils and split them in two. It looks more natural and also doesn't line up the top 3 inches of the canvas with the pencils.
  4. 4 Tilt the canvas so that the wax drips. Quite often, the canvas is leaned against the wall. If you are leaning against a wall, tape the newspaper to the wall to avoid unpleasant accidents.
  5. 5 Use a hair dryer to melt the pencils. Better to point the hair dryer down so that the wax drips. Please note that it will be dirty! However, it doesn't matter how messy it gets, as long as your newspapers are properly laid out.
    • It takes a long time - 5 to 8 minutes for a small portion of colored pencils. If you can melt three pencils in 6 minutes and you have 64 colored pencils, then all pencils will take over two hours (unless you have an assistant). Be patient!
      • It is much faster to use a large holiday candle, but it is also more dangerous and the wax from the candle will drip everywhere too. If it's better for you to be messy than wasting a ton of time, then a candle might be the best choice for you.
      • A heat gun is also a quicker alternative and can be purchased at most stores.
  6. 6 When you're done, sit down and let the wax dry. Clean the area and pick up any dry pieces of wax that have leaked into unwanted areas.
  7. 7 Show your work! Hang it on the wall, post it on Facebook or Tumblr, call a family member. Show your creativity to the world: they will love it! And the children too!

Method 2 of 2: hot glue gun

  1. 1 Take the canvas. Place it against a wall or a chair covered with a towel. Place it against a wall or a chair covered with a towel. Some areas that you haven't thought of may get dirty. Select the size of the canvas so that it completely covers the existing pencils.
  2. 2 Unroll your colored pencils and place one in the gun. Yes, yes - into the pistol. Did we mention that this is not super good for a machine? He may or may not survive this test, but he guarantees you fast and wonderful results!
    • After you have placed the first pencil in the gun, start pushing the second - this will displace the first. You will see it as soon as the color starts bleeding from the end!
  3. 3 Color the canvas. With this method, you have incredible color control; it will appear wherever you want. Bring the tip of the gun to the canvas and get creative!
    • Once there is nothing more to press, place another pencil. You will see the color coming out of the tip gradually lighten or darken as the next pencil releases its color.
  4. 4 Let dry. It was much faster than blow drying, huh? If you think the glue gun can be repaired, insert a regular glue stick and work until a clear, sticky, colorless and wax-free substance comes out.
    • If you are not happy with a part of your painting, then with this method you can very easily redo (or add) any part.

Tips

  • Do it outside. Crayons smell awful!
  • Lay out pencils in different shapes for a beautiful drawing (hearts, circles, etc.).
  • Use a brush or sponge to create a softer look. You can also use ribbon to create patterns or designs.
  • Work outside to keep the colored pencils from staining your entire home. You don't need a hairdryer on a hot sunny day. Let the sun do the job.
  • Bring a towel or rag in case there isn't enough newspaper.
  • Ask a friend to help you with the hairdryer. This will greatly speed up the process.
  • Keep the hair dryer at a height while working to speed up melting.
  • Some people write words on the canvas and make the colors seep through the canvas. Common words: imagination, innovation, creation, smile, etc.
  • Wear an old T-shirt to avoid staining your clothes.
  • A candle or heat gun will work too (instead of a hair dryer).
