    • Open the archive and double click on "DVDx Setup."
    • Complete the DVDx installation.
    • Make sure you have XviD (and / or DivX) drivers, for that you can install AutoGK and download the codecs separately.
    • Download the latest version of DivX software (see Sources and Links).
  3. 3 Insert the DVD disc into the DVD drive. Also, if your DVD movie or video is saved as files on your computer, then you can open them from there.
  4. 4 Open the DVDx program.
  5. 5 Click File to open and find the files you want. Select File and then Open DVD root as the pop-up menu option. Select the connected DVD drive on your computer in the window that appears. Also, you can open DVD files that are on your computer by choosing “Open IFO”. In the folder selection window, select VTS_01_0.IFO. The movie files you selected will be set as files for the ripping process and you will see the Input Setting dialog open.
  6. 6 Make a copy of multiple movies or videos. If you have multiple movies or videos on DVD, then select the file that appears in the pop-up window and then select the movie you want to recode by choosing it from the drop-down menu in the upper left corner. You must select the root and file menus for each DVD movie or video if you want to copy multiple at the same time. Make sure the soundtrack and angle selection is correct. It is recommended to leave other default settings. Click OK to continue.
  7. 7 Open the Output Settings dialog from the Settings menu. Specify the encoding options for your copy in the output settings panel. Here, you can select output settings such as the movie format (AVI or MPG).
    • For video, AVI with DIVx is recommended, and Lame MP3 for audio.
    • To make a copy of the movie without distributing the last minutes into a separate file, set the maximum file size to infinity in the Output settings. Located in the “Volume Don’t exceed” drop-down menu.
  8. 8 In the Export Settings section, select the screen size (resolution) for encoding.
    • For widescreen monitors (aspect ratio 16: 9) choose 720 x 576. Anything divisible by 16 is fine.
    • For conventional monitors (4: 3) choose 720 x 544. Anything divisible by 16 is fine.
  9. 9 Next, the Max Frame number, click on the button called Whole. Make sure to click this button for each DVD movie or DVD file that you select. ...
  10. 10 Click File, then select Destination to specify the location on your computer where the files will be saved. Also, you can find the Destination button next to the red Record button, in the lower right side of the program window. Enter the file name and press OK.
  11. 11 Click on the red button on the bottom toolbar to start the copying process. The ripping time depends on your system and the size of the movie. Once it finishes, you can find the copied file in the specified directory.

Tips

  • To make a DVD rip of multiple movies (or series), open the DVD menu and select the file you want to encode for each file on the DVD.
  • After converting, you might want to delete the DVD files left on your hard drive to save free space. Make sure your AVI or MPEG files are of decent quality before deleting anything.
  • If a hard disk error appears, close the program. Right click on the DVDx icon and select Run as administrator.
  • If during converting, an error "DVD drive could not be locked" appears, then you must install the aspi drivers (from Adaptec), and select the "Use aspi" option. Otherwise, there will be no need for this.
  • DVDx comes in two versions, Standard and Ultra. The standard version is fully functional, but does not rip DVD-ripped movies with copy protection - this is done in the Ultra version. The standard version is free, but you will have to pay for the Ultra version and register on the site.
