This article is about how to draw dogs. When you're done, you can add any other detail, like a hat!

Steps

Method 1 of 5: Cartoon Dog

1. 1 Draw a circle.
2. 2 Draw two horizontal ovals that extend slightly to the bottom of the circle.
3. 3 Make two ovals with a double line for the eyes.
4. 4 Draw a small oval for the nose.
5. 5 Under the nose, draw some curved lines for the mouth.
6. 6 Draw one ear with a curved line as shown below.
7. 7 Draw the second ear in the same way.
8. 8 Draw a rectangle that will partially cover the bottom oval.
9. 9 Create a square with curved sides that will partially cover the rectangle.
10. 10 Draw another irregular square below the belly. It should be on the previous square.
11. 11 For the lower back, draw an irregular square with curved sides that will partially cover the previous square.
12. 12 Draw a small oval for the back leg at the bottom end.
13. 13 Draw a vertical rectangle with curved sides and an open top side for one of the front legs.
14. 14 Based on this rectangle, draw an oval for that leg's paw.
15. 15 Draw a similar vertical rectangle for the other front leg.
16. 16 Draw a small oval for the paw on it.
17. 17 Add a small curved line for the tail.
18. 18 Based on the sketch, complete all the necessary details.
19. 19 Erase the sketch.
20. 20 Color the doggie.

Method 2 of 5: Hound

1. 1 Draw a small circle for the dog's head.
2. 2 For the mouth, draw three straight lines that connect to the circle.
3. 3 Add two triangles at the top of the circle for the ears.
4. 4 For the neck, draw two straight lines that will start from the circle.
5. 5 Draw a large, horizontal oval, connected to the neck, for the dog's body.
6. 6 Draw a small oval at the bottom edge of the large oval.
7. 7 Overlap it slightly with another oval for the lower back.
8. 8 Connect the largest oval with a straight line to the oval that will serve as the lower back.
9. 9 Add straight lines for the dog's front legs.
10. 10 Draw irregular rectangles for the paws at the base of the forelegs. Do the same for the back leg.
11. 11 At the bottom of the lower back, draw a curve for the tail.
12. 12 Draw a small, horizontal oval at the top end of the front leg to indicate the bone and muscles of the leg.
13. 13 Based on the sketch, paint in the details.
14. 14 Erase the lines of the sketch.
15. 15 Color the dog.

Method 3 of 5: Alternative Cartoon Dog

1. 1 Draw two overlapping circles. The smaller circle will be on the upper left side.
2. 2 Draw details for the ears. Draw a curve to split the top circle into two halves.
3. 3 Draw the details of the dog's face. Draw the eyes, nose and mouth of the dog. Make it look like a cartoon.
4. 4 Draw the body using curves and straight lines that will connect to the second circle.
5. 5 Draw the legs and tail of the dog.
6. 6 Draw the outlines with a pen and erase all unnecessary lines. Add details to the body and sketch out the teeth.
7. 7 Color it however you want!

Method 4 of 5: Regular Dog

1. 1 Draw two circles of different sizes and an oval for the outline.
2. 2 Draw the legs of the dog using straight lines. Draw them using simple shapes: trapezoids, rectangles, polygons.
3. 3 Draw the dog's body using curved lines that will connect to the circles and oval.
4. 4 Use the curves to draw in the details of the dog's face. Refine the drawing by adding the eyes, nose and mouth of the dog.
5. 5 Circle with a pen and erase all unnecessary lines.
6. 6 Color it however you want!

Method 5 of 5: Realistic Dog

1. 1 Draw two ovals. They should be next to each other, and one oval should be slightly larger than the other. It is very important that they are not too far apart.
2. 2 Draw the outlines. Draw a line that will go over the ovals and go down. Draw a second line that will go under the ovals and bend slightly between the ovals. Then, sketch out the beginning of the legs as shown in the picture. Make the bottom and top straight lines look up, and then draw a circle for the head. Partially within this circle draw an oval for the nose.
3. 3 Draw the outlines of the head. What you did for the body, repeat with the head. After, erase all circles on the body and head of the dog. Add ears to the head, whether they are long and drooping, or short and erect. Draw a long or short tail. At this stage, it is better to have in mind the breed that you will be drawing, since it is time to finish painting the details.
4. 4 Erase all inner circles. Erase all circles and ovals carefully. Finish the fur using curves on the outlines. Your dog should look like a real one!
5. 5 That's all.
