In this article, you will learn how to breed animals in Minecraft. To do this, you need to find two identical animals and feed them with your favorite food. You can do this in all versions of Minecraft, including desktop, Pocket Edition, and console versions.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Taming the Animals

1. 1 Find out which animals you should tame before breeding. You can skip this part entirely if the animal you want to breed is not one of the following:
   • Horse
   • Wolf
   • Ocelot
   • Llama
2. 2 Obtain the food you need to domesticate this animal. You will need appropriate foods for the following animals:
   • Horse - nothing is required, but your hand must be empty.
   • Wolf - bone.
   • Ocelot - any kind of raw fish (must be either raw salmon or raw fish in Minecraft PE).
   • Llama - nothing is required, but your hand must be empty.
3. 3 Take the product you need for domestication in your hand. If you're trying to tame a horse or llama, make sure you don't have anything in hand by selecting an empty slot in the gear menu.
4. 4 Choose an animal with which the domestication product can be applied. Right-click or press the left trigger while facing the animal.
   • If you are taming a horse or llama, choosing an animal will allow you to saddle it. You will have to climb onto the animal and get off it several times until hearts appear over its head.
   • If you are taming an ocelot, approach it 10 blocks away and wait for it to approach you before picking it.
5. 5 Wait for hearts to appear over his head. You need to keep choosing an animal until that happens. Once you see red hearts above his head, you've tamed him.
6. 6 Repeat the process with other animals of the same species. Since you need 2 animals for breeding, you will need to tame another animal in the same way, and only then you can breed them.

Method 2 of 2: Breeding Animals

1. 1 Find two animals you want to breed. Skip this step if you have tamed animals before.
   • You cannot cross two different animals (for example, a pig and a wolf).
2. 2 Build a pen with one open space. To do this, you can use a fence or a wall in two blocks high. Make sure to leave enough room for the animals to move around.
3. 3 Hold your pet's favorite food in your hand. Depending on the animal you want to lure, you need to choose one of the following foods:
   • ’Horse - golden apple or golden carrot. You can do this by placing an apple or carrot in the middle of the crafting table, and a gold ingot in each remaining slot.
   • Sheep - wheat.
   • Cow or mushroom cow - wheat.
   • Pig - carrots, potatoes or beets.
   • Chicken - grains, as well as pumpkin, melon or beetroot seeds.
   • Wolf (dog) - any meat you can find. In order to reproduce, the wolf must have full health.
   • ’Ocelot (cat) - any fish.
   • Rabbit - dandelion, carrot or golden carrot.
   • Llama - haystack.
4. 4 Wait for the animals to follow you. Almost as soon as you pick up their favorite food, they should turn and stare at you. At this point, you can start luring them into the corral.
5. 5 Return to the pen. The animals will follow you into the pen as long as you have food in your hand.
   • Move all the way to the end of the pen so the animals don't get stuck too close to the entrance.
6. 6 Feed both animals. With your chosen food in hand, select the two animals you want to force to reproduce. You should see hearts appear above both heads.
   • If you feed the wolf, but hearts do not appear, then the wolf is not at full health. Continue feeding the wolf until hearts appear, and then repeat this with another wolf.
7. 7 Go out and seal the paddock. Once the animals are facing each other, quickly leave the pen and seal the exit. This will prevent the animals from escaping after the baby is born.
8. 8 Wait for the hatchling to appear. It will take about three seconds from the start of reproduction until the baby appears.

Tips

• If you have chicken eggs, you can drop them on the ground to hatch the chickens.

Warnings

• Your farm can quickly spiral out of control if you're not careful. Make sure to breed animals in a large open area.
