Chickpeas, also known as chickpeas, are used in hummus, salads, and stews. While it's available canned and ready to serve, you can make a more nutritious version with dried foods. Moisten, boil, and season your chickpeas during this 12 hour process.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Part One: Buying Dried Chickpeas
1 Visit the appropriate section of your supermarket. Not all supermarkets sell dried chickpeas.
2 Find loose chickpeas at any natural grocery store. It is usually sold in grocery stores with large sections of bulk products.
3 Make sure that the chickpeas in this store are not stale. Although it is a dried product, it can become stale if spent several months in a container.
4 Buy 450 g of dried chickpeas by weight.
Method 2 of 3: Part Two: Soak Dried Chickpeas
1 Place the chickpeas in a large bowl. Sort out the chickpeas. Remove any darkened and small peas.
2 Pour cold water over the chickpeas so that they cover about 10 cm. The chickpeas should soak up the water overnight.
3 Remove the peas that will float to the surface of the bowl.
4 Add ½ teaspoon salt. Stir it in water with a wooden spoon.
5 Leave the chickpeas for 12 hours. Soak the chickpeas overnight to cook the next day.
Method 3 of 3: Part Three: Making Soaked Chickpeas
1 Drain off the water with a colander. Make sure the colander has holes small enough to keep the chickpeas from falling out.
2 Place the chickpeas in a saucepan.
3 Pour fresh cold waterso that it covers the chickpeas by about 6 cm.
4 Bring the chickpea water to a boil over high heat. Then reduce the heat.
5 Set the kitchen timer to 1.5 hours. Cover while cooking.
6 Remove the lid and add spices such as herbs or garlic for the last minutes.
7 Try chickpeas. It should be hard, not soft. If it's too hard, cook it for another half hour under the lid.
8 Drain and refrigerate the chickpeas. Serve immediately, use in other recipe combinations, or freeze for later use.
Tips
- You can also try the “quick soak” method of dried chickpeas. Place the dried chickpeas in a saucepan and pour in the water so that it covers the chickpeas by 10 cm. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit in hot water for 1 hour. Drain and prepare to cook as you would for the 12 hour method.
