The antique look of ceramic sinks and their soft and durable surfaces make the perfect addition to any bathroom or kitchen. It is worth noting that ceramic sinks get very dirty, so trying to scrub the stain can lead to scratches on the sink. Despite this, it is quite easy to remove surface stains from ceramics. Only very old and scratched surfaces can be problematic. With proper care, your ceramic sink will last for many years to shine.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Cleaning your ceramic sink

1. 1 Start with a soft sponge and dish soap. Ceramics are very easy to scratch, so do not use an abrasive sponge or steel wool. Use a clean sponge and some dish soap to remove surface stains. Wipe the stain in a circular motion, then remove the product with a clean sponge or cloth.
   • For best results, keep the water as hot as possible.
2. 2 Clean your sink with baking soda. Take a damp cloth or sponge and sprinkle baking soda over the stain. Baking soda is a mild abrasive that can be used to remove stains without scratching the sink. Clean the sink in a circular motion, and then be sure to rinse the sink. If the baking soda dries, it will leave marks on the sink.
   • Add a little ammonia or lemon juice to enhance the cleaning product.
3. 3 Pour the bleach over the sink, then cover it with paper towels and let it sit overnight. The paper towels will keep the bleach in contact with the sink surface, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the stains. Remove the towels the next morning. All you have to do is rinse and dry the surface of the sink.
   • Be sure to do this in a well-ventilated area (or open a window) to avoid breathing in the fumes of the bleach.
   • Never pour bleach on painted ceramics or antiques, as it can spoil the color and damage the wood and metal objects that are attached to the ceramics.
4. 4 Remove water stains with vinegar. Close the sink drain and fill it with hot water. Then pour 1-2 cups (250 ml) of vinegar into the sink and wait 3-4 hours. When you open the drain and all the water is gone, water stains can be easily wiped off with a sponge.
   • Rinse the vinegar off the sink. Vinegar is acidic and can damage the surface of your sink if you are not careful.
5. 5 Try other non-abrasive cleaners. Products such as Borax or Vanish can be used to remove tough stains, but you should be aware that not all cleaning products are made the same. Do not use abrasive (Comet) or acidic (Mr.Proper) cleaners, as they may tarnish the ceramics.
6. 6 Use lemon juice and table salt to remove rust stains. Use this method only as a last resort, as friction and acid can cause the surface of the sink to tarnish over time. To remove a stubborn stain, sprinkle some salt on it and then squeeze out the lemon juice. Use a sponge to rub this mixture into the stain. If the stain is very deeply ingrained, leave the mixture on the surface of the sink for 15-20 minutes.

Method 2 of 2: Polishing the ceramic

1. 1 Buy a ceramic polishing kit. Ceramic products can be easily polished at home. This is a great and easy way to restore the shine of your sink. First, make sure the sink is as clean as possible. Rinse it off and use a clean rag to apply a thin layer of polish all over the sink. Before using the sink again, do exactly as instructed in the instructions for use of the polishing agent.
   • Ceramic varnish is sometimes sold as ceramic tile varnish.
2. 2 Use a dab of lemon or baby oil to add a shine to the sink. Just put a few drops of oil on a clean rag and wipe the sink with it. Thus, the sink will not get very dirty and will always smell good.
3. 3 Use car wax to polish your sink and protect it from scratches. You don't need a lot of wax. Place some wax on a clean sponge and use it to wipe the sink bowl. The sink will then be clean and smell good.
4. 4 If you wish, you can order a professional sink polish. In the process of making a ceramic sink, a special solution is poured into the cast-iron mold, thanks to which it turns out to be very durable. Therefore, it is often best to have a heavily scratched sink polished by a professional to protect it for years to come.
