An iPhone, iPod, or iPad ID, also known as a UDID, is a unique number that recognizes your device. If you are an Apple developer, you will need it to install any software on your non-jailbroken phone that is not available in the Apple App Store.

Steps

  1. 1 Launch iTunes.
  2. 2 Connect your iPhone, iPod or iPad.
  3. 3 Click on the device name in the application menu.
  4. 4 Click on the Serial Number button in the Summary tab.
  5. 5 Note that the serial number will turn into a long string of letters and numbers. This is the identifier / UDID.
  6. 6 Press [Command + C] (Mac) or [Control + C] (Windows) to copy the UDID number to iTunes. Paste it into your document for later use.

Tips

  • The UDID can be used by the Apple iPhone Developer Portal to generate provisioning certificates needed to install enhancement or problem solving applications.
