Blinds are sometimes not easy to clean. They can be metal, plastic or even wooden. Dust constantly settles on them, which must be removed periodically. In this article, we will show you two easy ways to remove dust from blinds, as well as one way to clean them of dirt that could, for example, settle in the kitchen or bathroom. Just don't use the second method for cleaning wooden blinds. You will have to clean them the first way, but only more often.

1. 1 Before cleaning the blinds, first identify the dirtiest areas. Take a window cleaner and remove all stains and streaks from them. Then wipe them dry with paper towels.
2. 2 Remove the curtains or tie them up with a string.

Method 1 of 4: Method One: Manual Cleaning

1. 1 Close the blinds.
2. 2 Take a soft cotton rag. Instead of a rag, you can use microfiber gloves for dusting or paper to dry your clothes. Paper towels will also work, but you will need to change them more often. Drying paper, by the way, removes static electricity well.
3. 3 Gloves must be dry to clean wooden blinds. Damp gloves will leave streaks on the wood. Gloves can be slightly moistened to clean plastic or metal blinds. If you are using a special cleaning spray, make sure it is specific to the material your blinds are made of. Otherwise, it will leave sticky stripes on them, which will then adhere to even more dirt.
4. 4 Start cleaning the blinds. Begin to clean them with a dust-collecting glove or drying paper, starting from the top center of the louver towards the edges. Start in the middle to avoid dusting from one end to the other.
5. 5 Open the blinds and close them in the opposite direction. Run your hand over the planks again. Or open the blinds and run your fingers over each bar.

Method 2 of 4: Method Two: Vacuuming

2. 2 Prepare your vacuum cleaner. Install the soft attachment. Be sure to use it to avoid damaging or scratching the planks.
3. 3 Hold the blinds with your other hand so that they do not swing violently when cleaning.
4. 4 Vacuum from the middle to the edges.

Method 3 of 4: Method Three: Deep Cleaning (only for metal and plastic blinds)

3. 3 Put blinds in the bathroom. Fold the blinds together and place them in the bathroom with warm water. Add a simple detergent to the water, such as dishwashing detergent or powder with bleach.
4. 4 Leave the blinds in the water for half an hour. Then brush them gently with a soft brush. If there is too much dirt on the planks, leave them in the bathroom overnight.
5. 5 Rinse the blinds. Drain and then pour fresh water from a bucket or shower over the blinds to rinse off any remaining soap.
6. 6 Hang the blinds to dry. Hang them on the edge of the tub or balcony and let them dry. If you want, place a fan next to them to help the blinds dry faster.

Method 4 of 4: If it's sunny outside

1. 1 Fill a bucket with warm water and add 1/4 cup of some kind of dish soap to it.
2. 2 Drive two nails into the fence. Select the shaded part of the fence. There you will temporarily hang your blinds. You will also need a bucket of water, detergent spray, a brush, and a watering hose.
3. 3 Remove the blinds from the window and hang them on the fence.

5. 5 Sprinkle them generously with detergent and let sit for a couple of minutes. Then dip the brush into a bucket of soapy water and start cleaning the blinds.
6. 6 Rotate the blinds to the other side and repeat the procedure.
7. 7 Plug in a garden hose and rinse the blinds thoroughly. Then let them air dry.
8. 8 Hang the blinds in place.

Tips

• Put old socks on your hands. Dip one sock in soap and water. You will wipe the slats with it. Use the other sock to wipe them dry.
• Don't throw away your old socks. They are great for cleaning blinds. Place one sock over your hand and clean the panel by pinching it between your thumb and forefinger.
• Step on a stool or small stepladder to clean the blinds.But if there are several of them, then it is better to remove the blinds from the windows. You will clean them faster.
• Clean your blinds every week to keep dust from collecting.
• You can buy special cleaning products if you prefer to soak your blinds in the tub. There are some products that remove dirt without the need to brush the panels and also do a good job of cleaning the cords. Just make sure these foods are not harmful to your health.

Warnings

• Do not wash wooden blinds in the bathroom. You can mess them up.
