Once you know the model number of your Dyson vacuum cleaner, you can determine which filters to clean and how often. Be sure to turn off and unplug the device before removing the filter (s). Flush the filter (s) with cold water only. In some models of vacuum cleaners, the filters must first be briefly soaked in cold water. Air dry the filters. In order for the filters to serve for a long time and efficiently, they need to be cleaned regularly.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Find your model number

  1. 1 Find the serial number of your vacuum cleaner. Look for a sticker on your device. Write down the first three digits of the serial number found on the sticker. It can be located in one of the following places: on the body behind the hose, under the base between the wheels and behind the container.
    • If you cannot find the sticker, go to: https://www.dyson.com.ru/registeryourmachine/serial-number-lookup.aspx?showoverlay=true.
  2. 2 Select your model on the Dyson support site. Go to the page https://www.dyson.com.ru/registeryourmachine/serial-number-lookup.aspx?showoverlay=true. Enter the serial number of the device, if you have one. Otherwise, select a vacuum cleaner model. Select the picture and description that matches your device. Select the topic "Filter cleaning".
    • If there is no filter cleaning option, please refer to the user manual.
  3. 3 Review the manufacturer's recommendations. Learn how to remove the filter, if needed. Determine which filters can be washed and how often.Find out if your model's filter needs to be pre-soaked.
    • Some models, such as the DC07, are equipped with a washable filter as well as a post-motor filter that does not need to be washed at all.
    • Some vacuum cleaner models, like the DC24 Multi Floor, have multiple washable filters.
    • Most models need to be flushed every three to six months. However, the Dyson 360 filter should be washed at least once a month.

Part 2 of 3: Remove and Rinse the Filter

  1. 1 Disconnect the device from the power source. Unplug the vacuum cleaner if plugged in. Slide the switch to the off position. Never try to open the vacuum cleaner while it is turned on or plugged in.
  2. 2 Remove the filter. Open the vacuum cleaner carefully. Press the button that opens the filter housing, if available on this model, and then pull the filter out of it.
  3. 3 Soak the filter if necessary. Fill a bowl with cold water and do not add any detergent. Submerge the filter in water and soak it for at least five minutes.
    • Some cordless vacuum cleaner models, such as the DC35 and DC44, need to be soaked beforehand.
    • Some upright vacuum cleaners, such as the DC17, also need to pre-soak their filters. Others, such as the DC24 Multi Floor, do not.
  4. 4 Rinse the filter under cold water. Squeeze the filter while rinsing. Continue rinsing and squeezing the filter for five minutes until the water runs clear.
    • Some filters may require up to ten rinses until the water is completely clear.

Part 3 of 3: Dry the filter

  1. 1 Shake off any remaining water. Shake the filter over the sink. Pat the filter on your hand or sink to shake out any remaining water.
  2. 2 Leave the filter in a warm, dry place. Install the filter horizontally, unless the model instructions say otherwise. Never place the filter in a microwave oven, dryer, or near an open flame.
    • It is better to place the filter outside in the sun or near the battery (rather than on top of it).
  3. 3 Let the filter dry completely. Leave the filter to dry as long as necessary. Make sure the filter is completely dry before putting the filter back into the vacuum cleaner.
    • Some upright and cordless vacuum cleaner models such as DC07, DC15, DC17 and DC24 must air dry for twelve hours.
    • Other filter models such as DC17 (vertical) and 360 (robot) must be air dried for twenty four hours.
