In order to stop the buzzing of the fluorescent lamp, you can replace the old electromagnetic transformer with a new electronic one.

Steps

  1. 1 Buy a new electronic transformer that matches the wattage of your lamp.
  2. 2 Disconnect the device from the power supply. If it is permanently connected to the source, turn off the switch. Do not disassemble the device without turning off the power.
  3. 3 Separate the fluorescent tubes. Don't break them!
  4. 4 Remove the cover. There are usually 2 or 4 screws. Don't lose the screws! Sometimes the cover needs to be squeezed to release it from the retaining clips.
  5. 5 Dismantle the transformer. It is a heavy metal object measuring approximately 25 x 7.5 x 5 centimeters with several wires. It is usually secured with 2 or 4 screws or 1 or 2 nuts. The newest have only one. Disconnect the wires from the power supply and from the pins at the ends of the assembly. On some models, the wires cannot be disconnected, you will have to cut them off and use the wire jumper to reassemble. Throw away the transformer. Set aside the screws and wire clamps, if any. (Attention: if the lamp was connected to the mains, the transformer may be very hot.)
  6. 6 If there is a starter (small aluminum, may have contacts at the bottom), remove it and the mounting socket. Throw away the starter and mounting socket.
  7. 7 Screw the new electronic (non-electromagnetic) transformer through the holes inside the unit.
  8. 8 Using screws and / or wire clamps, connect the wires as shown in the diagram that comes with the new transformer. Make sure you connect the designated colored wires to the correct connectors and power terminals. Check again. You really want to get it right the first time.
  9. 9 Replace the cover.
  10. 10 Replace the tube.
  11. 11 Plug in or turn on the switch.

Tips

  • Buy a transformer depending on the number of lamps in the luminaire (one, two, four).

Warnings

  • Do not open the case until you are sure that the power is off.
