In this article, we will show you how to find out information about the video card on computers with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Windows

1. 1 Open the start menu . Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner.
   • Alternatively, you can right-click on "Start" to open a menu with the options you want.
2. 2 Open Device Manager. Enter device Manager from the Start menu, and then click Device Manager at the top of the search results.
   • If you right-clicked Start, choose Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
3. 3 Find the "Video adapters" section. To do this, scroll down the contents of Device Manager.
   • The contents of Device Manager are sorted alphabetically.
   • If the Display Adapters section is already expanded, skip the next step.
4. 4 Double click on the "Display adapters" section. The section expands and the graphics card information is displayed on the screen.
5. 5 View information about the video card. You will find it in the "Video adapters" section. If the screen displays information about two cards, these are the integrated and discrete graphics cards.
   • Search the Internet for a map model for more information about it.

Method 2 of 3: Mac OS X

1. 1 Open the Apple menu . Click on the Apple logo in the upper left corner. A menu will open.
2. 2 Click on About this Mac. It's an option at the top of the menu.
3. 3 Click on System information. It's an option at the bottom of the window.
4. 4 Click on ▼ to the left of the option Equipment. You will find it on the left in the window.
5. 5 Click on Graphics / Monitor. You will find this option in the middle of the Hardware section on the left side of the window.
6. 6 View information about the video card. You will find it at the top right in the window.
   • The graphics card options will be displayed below its name.

Method 3 of 3: Linux

1. 1 Open a terminal. Click on the black square icon; you can also press Alt+Ctrl+T.
2. 2 Update the list of computer accessories. In terminal enter the following command and then press ↵ Enter.

   sudo update-pciids

3. 3 Enter password. Enter the password you use to log in, and then click ↵ Enter... This will confirm your actions and update the list of computer parts.
   • When entering a password, its characters are not displayed.
4. 4 Display on the screen a list of computer accessories, including the graphics card. To do this, enter the following command and then press ↵ Enter:

   lspci -v | less

5. 5 Find your graphics card. Scroll up the contents of the terminal to find the line "Video controller", "VGA", "3D" or "Integrated video card"; in this line you will find the name of the video card.
6. 6 Pay attention to the identification number of the video card. It is located to the left of the name of the video card and is usually presented in the format 00: 00.0
7. 7 Open a new terminal window. Press again Alt+Ctrl+T or right-click on the terminal icon and select New Terminal Window (or equivalent) from the menu.
8. 8 View information about the video card. In the terminal, enter the following command (replace "00: 02.0" with the identification number of your video card), and then click ↵ Enter:

   sudo lspci -v -s 00: 02.0

Tips

• Video cards are also called graphics cards.
• Many computers have discrete graphics cards because the performance of such cards is higher than the performance of integrated graphics cards.
