Over time, wood fences can become covered with algae and mold. They usually appear in shady and humid areas. In our article, we will tell you how to get rid of them.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Use a pressure washer

1. 1 Prune and tie the plants that grow near the fence.
2. 2 Cover delicate plants with tarps or buckets. Remove all other unnecessary items.
3. 3 Set the water pressure to a low level (1500-2000 psi).
4. 4 Stand one meter away from the fence and douse it with water from the sink. You can get closer to clean up heavily soiled areas. Do not stay in one place, but slowly move the hose from side to side.
5. 5 If you have cleaned the fence from mold and algae, then let it dry. If there are still stains, then proceed to the next step.
6. 6 Clean the fence with a brush if there are still stains on it after washing with a sink.
   • Pour one to two bleach and water solution into the bucket. You do not need to stir the solution.
   • Use a brush to clean any remaining stains. Make sure that the solution does not get on your plants.
   • After wiping off the stains with a brush, try rolling them out of the sink again.
7. 7 Inspect the fence and sand the wood where necessary.
8. 8 Drive any protruding nails or screws into the wood deeper, and repair the planks where necessary.
9. 9 After the fence is dry, cover the tree with a special product that protects the tree from moisture, or paint it.

Method 2 of 2: Manually remove mold and algae from the fence

1. 1 Cover the plants with tarps or buckets.
2. 2 Mix one to two bleach and water in a bucket.
3. 3 Add one teaspoon of liquid soap, which can be mixed with chlorine, to the bucket, at the rate of one spoonful per liter of water.

Tips

• Prune the plants around the fence to reduce shaded areas. The sun and air will "cure" the fence from mold.
