1 Start preparing to wash your hair in 8-12 hours. And while you can do this just before you shower, it's much better to start preparing to wash your hair 8-12 hours in advance. This will help your natural lard stand out and work its way all the way to the ends of your hair, making it easier to work with.
  • If you have washed your hair recently, then wait until they begin to get greasy to the touch. You don't need to wash your hair every day.
  • Make sure your hair is dry and tangle-free. If they are tangled, comb them gently, starting at the ends. This will make it much easier to work with the hair.
  • 2 Massage your scalp with your fingertips. Pass your fingers through your hair to your scalp and apply gentle pressure. Massage with quick, jerky, but gentle strokes. Do not skip areas - massage your entire head.
    • This process helps release the natural lubricant that is secreted by the glands on the scalp.
    • Massage with your fingertips, not your nails.
  • 3 Use your fingers to separate your hair into thin sections. Pinch a small section of hair at the roots between your fingers and slide your hand down towards the ends. Repeat with each section of your head. This will distribute the natural oil along the entire length of the hair.
    • It may be more convenient to start on one side of your head and work your way up to the other. So, you will know for sure that you have not missed a single strand.
    • This process can be combined with brushing your hair. Brush through hair with a natural bristle brush immediately following your fingers.
    • Imagine parting your hair into wide ribbons. They should be relatively thin and slightly narrower than the length of your fingers.
  • 4 Comb your hair with a natural bristle brush. Make sure the brush is clean and of good quality. Comb your hair in small sections starting from the ends. Never comb your hair along the entire length from roots to ends without combing the ends and the middle of the hair first.
    • This will not only distribute the natural lubricant along the entire length of your hair, but will also detangle and smooth it.
    • If your hair is long or very dry, add a little oil to the ends. Coconut oil or shea butter is great for this.
  • Part 2 of 4: Washing your hair

    1. 1 Dampen your hair in very warm water. The temperature of the water is very important at this stage, as the warm water helps to open the hair cuticles. The water should not be too hot to avoid damaging your hair. At the same time, it should not be cool, otherwise the oil on the scalp will not disintegrate.
      • You should wash your hair 8-24 hours after brushing your hair described in the previous step. If your hair has become tangled during this time, comb it again.
      • Hair response to hard water is difficult to predict. For some it works, for others it doesn't. If you know that hard water is bad for your hair, then install a water softener filter.
    2. 2 Part your hair to expose your scalp. This is especially important for long or thick hair. You will need to massage your scalp again, but this time with water. By separating the hair, water will get to the scalp.
      • It doesn't matter where you part your hair, you will need to massage your entire scalp!
    3. 3 Rub your scalp under running water. Place your fingertips on your scalp and gently massage your scalp. Massage while standing in the shower to allow the water to flow onto the scalp. This will wash away dirt and excess grease.
    4. 4 While standing in the shower, run your fingers through your hair so that the water rinses it along the entire length. This is especially important if you have oily hair. If you have dry hair, then this is not necessary, but if your hair quickly becomes greasy or you sweat a lot, then brushing this way will be beneficial. Simply pinch a section of hair between your fingers and then run it along the entire length, from root to tip.
      • Repeat this procedure all over the head, on both sides.
      • If you have very oily hair, use your fingers to comb it under running water.
    5. 5 Repeat the process all over the head. Proceed systematically so as not to miss a single section of your hair. Finish washing one side of your head first, and then move on to the other. Finish the procedure by running your fingers over the back of your head.
      • Pay special attention to the hairline and other areas of the scalp that quickly become oily.
    6. 6 Rinse your hair with cold water. If you are uncomfortable standing in a cold shower, step back and bend over so that only your head is under the shower.

Part 3 of 4: Drying your hair

    1. 1 Blot your hair with a microfiber towel. Do not rub your hair or use a regular towel to avoid tangling. Simply blot them with a T-shirt or microfiber towel to remove excess moisture.
      • Do not try to blow dry your hair completely.
    2. 2 Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb, then apply oil if necessary. As with any hair brushing, start at the ends. Having detangled the ends, start combing the middle section, and only then comb the hair from the roots.
      • After combing through your hair, apply 1-2 drops of hair oil to the ends and the middle of the hair. The oil will lubricate the strands and prevent them from tangling.
      • Do not use a regular comb. Wet hair is very fragile and can be damaged by a regular comb.
    3. 3 Let your hair dry naturally if possible. You can speed up this process with a microfiber towel or T-shirt, but don't rub your hair. Many people have reported that hair dries faster if washed without any products.
      • Once your hair is dry, you can style it. Try to avoid too many hair cosmetics as they can contaminate your hair.
    4. 4 Repeat the procedure after 3-7 days. It is worth repeating that you do not need to wash your hair as described every day. The reason for this is simple: the more often you wash your hair, the more oil is produced by the sebaceous glands on the scalp. If you wash your hair less often, your scalp will produce less natural lubrication, which means your hair will not become greasy as quickly.
      • Give your hair 2 to 16 weeks to get used to the new method of washing.

Part 4 of 4: Other Methods

    1. 1 Try a baking soda solution for a gentler cleanse. Stir 1–2 tablespoons (13–26 g) of baking soda in 1 cup (240 ml) of warm water. Apply the mixture to the scalp and massage it into the scalp. Wait 3-5 minutes and then wash off. Then wash your hair with conditioner or apple cider vinegar.
      • For a deeper cleanse, use 1 part baking soda to 1 part water.
    2. 2 Use a solution of water and apple cider vinegar for gentle cleansing. The exact proportions may vary, but it is generally recommended to start with a solution of 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) of apple cider vinegar in 1 cup (240 ml) of water. If your hair gets used to this ratio, then use water and vinegar in a 1: 1 ratio. Simply apply the solution to your scalp, massage it in and then rinse.
      • The solution is harmless to the scalp, but it stings the eyes. Be careful not to get the solution in your eyes!
      • Don't worry if the vinegar smell remains on your hair, it will fade very quickly. You can wash your hair only with vinegar, or you can combine this method with the previous one.
      • The vinegar solution works great for dandruff, great for oily, dry and dirty hair. It is also great if you have hard water - after the vinegar rinse, your hair will shine.
      • For best results, use natural apple cider vinegar with a natural sediment at the bottom.
    3. 3 Try diluted lemon juice instead of apple cider vinegar. Lemon juice does not have the same emollient properties and does not increase hair shine, but it is great for getting rid of excess oil on your hair. Simply squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into 1 cup (240 ml) of warm water and then apply to your hair. Massage the solution into the scalp and rinse.
      • Lemon juice is also a natural hair lightener.
    4. 4 If you have dry or curly hair wash them with hair conditioner. Washing your hair with conditioner is no different than washing your hair with shampoo - just use conditioner instead of shampoo. While the conditioner is distributed more to the ends of the hair, you need to massage it onto the scalp. Once the conditioner is washed off, do not use it again.
      • Washing your hair with conditioner is not recommended for very oily and dirty hair only, as the conditioner does not contain enough detergent to wash away the grease.
      • You will have to rub your scalp longer than usual to keep your head clean.

    Tips

    • Massage your scalp with your fingertips or a natural bristle brush every day for 5-10 minutes. This will move the oil secreted by the glands on your head closer to the ends of your hair.
    • If you need to use a cleanser, wash your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo.
    • You can try washing your hair with other natural products, such as apple cider vinegar.
