Moles are small animals that dig tunnels underground and feed on earthworms. Because they tear up lawns and destroy plants in search of food, they are often considered pests. Some traditional methods of dealing with moles, such as mothballs or lye, are often ineffective, while other, more expensive methods, such as explosives or chemicals, can be hazardous to your health. 1. 1 Identify the main tunnel. The mole digs holes all day long, at a speed of about 4 meters per hour, but it often returns to its main tunnel where you can catch it.

   • If you bought a pipe trap, place it directly in the tunnel so that the mole can easily climb into it. Or you can dig a hole in the tunnel where you put a regular plastic bucket. Cover the tunnel from above with a board.
   • If you will be using a "Mole Slayer" (or "Harpoon") trap, insert it with the legs down. Insert the trap into the ground until the trigger tongue rests on the pile of soil you poured. Then charge the spring.
3. 3 When setting a trap, you must be clear about how it works and what the end result will be.
4. 4 Check the traps regularly.
   • If within 1-2 days you do not catch a single mole, then set the traps in another place.
   • If you killed a mole, bury it away from water sources. If he was trapped alive, then remove the trap from the ground.

Tips

• Harpoon traps are best at killing moles in shallow tunnels. Scissor traps are set in deep tunnels. And if you do not want to kill moles, then you can buy special humane traps or make them yourself.
• The main tunnel will be indicated by a series of earthen mounds, especially if they have appeared within a few days. Moles often make moves along roads, building foundations, or fences.
• To make sure that the mole uses the tunnel frequently, push it slightly so that a small mound of earth forms inside the tunnel. The mole should clean it within 1-2 days.
• Moles are best caught in early spring and early fall when they are most active. Also catch them on warm days after rain, as moles then start actively looking for worms and digging tunnels.
• Do not set traps when it is cold or dry, as moles can burrow deep in the ground during this time.
• Do not set traps near the tunnel entrance. Only in the middle of the tunnel. The mole may not use the entrance to the tunnel, but it will definitely clean the passages.
