By changing the home (start) page in Mozilla Firefox, you configure this browser to your liking. Any site can be set up quickly and easily as a start page. If the changes you made don't work, go to the last section of this article to learn how to find and neutralize malware.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Drag and Drop (Computer)

  1. 1 Start Firefox. To do this, double-click the Firefox icon on your desktop.
  2. 2 Open the site and go to the page that you want to set as your browser home page.
  3. 3 Drag the tab to the home icon. Press and hold an open page tab, and then drag it to the home page icon (house-like).
    • Tabs are displayed at the top of the Firefox window; each of them has the name of the site (page) and its logo.
    • The home page icon is usually located below or to the right of the address bar. If you can't find this icon, right-click (Control + Click on Mac OS) the blank space next to any tab. Click Edit, in the list that opens, find the home page icon and drag it to any toolbar.
  4. 4 In the window that opens asking you to confirm your decision to change the home page, click Yes
    • If this method didn't work, go to the next section.

Method 2 of 4: Settings Menu (Computer)

  1. 1 Display the menu bar. On some versions of Windows, the menu bar is hidden by default. Display it using one of the following methods (you may need to use several methods):
    • Press Alt.
    • Press F10.
    • Right-click an empty space in the tab bar and select Menu Bar.
  2. 2 Click the Firefox menu button (top left or right) and select Preferences from the list that appears. The browser settings will open (in a new tab or pop-up window).
    • In some versions of Firefox, instead of Preferences, click Options.
  3. 3 Display the home page when starting the browser. Click the General tab and from the When Firefox starts drop-down menu, select Show Home.
    • If you cannot find this menu, go to the General tab.
  4. 4 Changing the home page. Under the "When Firefox starts" menu, find the line "Home:". Set your home page in one of the following ways:
    • In the specified line, enter the address of the desired page. If you want multiple pages to open when Firefox starts, separate their URLs with a pipe (|).
    • Click Use Current Pages to set all currently open pages as home.
    • Click Use Bookmark to set the bookmarked home page.
    • Click Restore to Default to return the default home page.

Method 3 of 4: On Android devices

  1. 1 On Android devices, the default home page (in Firefox) is the page that lists your most frequently visited sites. To open the home page, click on the title bar, then click Bookmarks - Home.
  2. 2 Pin the site to your home page. On the home page, click and hold the site you want to pin to it. From the pop-up menu, click Pin Site to keep it permanently in the list of sites on your home page.
  3. 3 Add a new site to your home page. If the site you want does not appear in the list of sites on the home page, click and hold any site you do not want in the list. In the pop-up menu, click Edit and enter the URL of the site you want, or select it from your bookmarks.
  4. 4 Close your browser. If you just switch to another application, the browser will run in the background. If you want to see the pinned sites on the home page of your browser the next time you launch your browser, click the menu icon and select Exit.

Method 4 of 4: Remove Malicious Home Pages (Computer)

  1. 1 Reset Firefox. If the home page you have set changes automatically (that is, without your knowledge), reset Firefox preferences. Please note that this will remove all browser extensions and add-ons, but bookmarks and saved passwords will be preserved.
  2. 2 Remove malicious add-ons. Such add-ons can set up your home page and prevent you from changing it. In this case, do the following:
    • Press the menu button (three horizontal lines icon).
    • Click Add-ons.
    • For every add-on you don't know, click Uninstall.
    • Then restart Firefox.
  3. 3 Delete the Babylon homepage. Babylon is a translation software that changes the home page and other browser settings and prevents them from being edited. To uninstall Babylon do the following:
    • On Windows. Open Control Panel and click Uninstall a program. Find "Babylon" in the list of programs and click Uninstall next to this program. Repeat the described process for "Babylon Toolbar", "Babylon Browser Manager", "Babylon Browser Protection" (if such programs are present in the list of programs). Now uninstall the Babylon add-on in your browser (as described above).
    • On Mac OS. Find "Babylon" in the Applications folder. Drag this program to the trash can. Now open Finder and click Empty Trash. Remove the Babylon add-on in your browser (as described above).
  4. 4 Change Firefox properties (Windows only). If the above methods did not work, right-click on the Firefox icon (for example, on the desktop) and click Properties. In the Shortcut tab, find the line "Object". If this line contains a web page address, remove it, as well as the quotation marks that enclose the address. Do not remove other information from the "Object" line.
    • If you have multiple Firefox shortcuts on your system, follow the described process for each one.
    • To avoid similar problems in the future, when asking any program to make changes to the browser settings, click "No".
  5. 5 Remove malware. If you cannot fix the problem, then most likely the system is infected with malware. In this case, delete it.

Tips

  • Open the page you want to make your home page, and then click "Use the current page" (in the browser settings, under the line "Home page").
  • Make sure that the new home page does not interfere with the work of other computer users.

Warnings

  • Do not forget to enter the prefix http: // or https: // before the page address.
