On Snapchat, you cannot change the username associated with an account. But you can delete the old account, and create a new one with a different name. Or at least change the display name that your friends and other users see when you send them images or chat.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: How to delete an old account

1. 1 Start Snapchat. The app icon looks like a white ghost on a yellow background.
2. 2 Swipe down from the top of the screen to access your account page.
3. 3 Click on ⚙️ in the upper right corner of the screen to open the settings menu.
4. 4 Scroll down and click on Support. This option is in the "More Information" section.
5. 5 Click on My Account & Settings. This is the last option on the screen.
6. 6 Click on Account Information.
7. 7 Click on Delete My Account in the center of the menu. After that, you will find yourself on a new page, where they will explain to you how to delete your account.
   • If you want to get a new username but don't want to delete your current account, just create a new one.
8. 8 Click on the word page (an active link that leads to the account deletion page) in the second paragraph.
9. 9 Enter your password to confirm the deletion of your account.
   • If the system did not provide the username automatically, do it yourself.
10. 10 Click Continue. This will deactivate your Snapchat account. It will be deleted after 30 days.
    • If you change your mind about deleting your account, restore it by signing in to Snapchat within 30 days of deactivation.
    • As of February 2017, you can no longer retrieve your Friends List from Snapchat. While there is nothing stopping you from finding users by phone number from your contacts list again, we still recommend taking a screenshot of your friends list before deleting your account.

Part 2 of 3: How to register a new account

1. 1 Start Snapchat. The app icon looks like a white ghost on a yellow background.
   • If you're not automatically signed in, enter your username and password.
2. 2 Swipe down from the top of the screen to access your account page.
3. 3 Click on ⚙️ in the upper right corner of the screen to open the settings menu.
4. 4 Scroll down and click Log Out at the very bottom of the menu.
5. 5 Click Sign Up to start registering a new account.
6. 6 Please enter your name. Enter your first and last name in the fields provided.
7. 7 Click Sign Up & Accept. Then enter your birthday and click "Continue".
8. 8 Enter a new username. Choose a new username for your Snapchat account.
9. 9 Enter your email address. It must be different from the address to which the previous account was linked.
10. 10 Follow the directions on the screen. Skip the unnecessary steps and start adding new or old friends from your contact list.
    • Once you've created your account, go back to the settings menu and change your email address and phone number.
    • Delete your old account or leave it as is, in case you still need it.

Part 3 of 3: How to change the display name

1. 1 Launch Snapchat. The app icon looks like a white ghost on a yellow background.
   • If you are not automatically logged in, enter your username and password.
2. 2 Swipe down from the top of the screen to access your account page.
3. 3 Click on ⚙️ in the upper right corner of the screen to open the settings menu.
4. 4 Click Name. This is the first option on the menu.
5. 5 Enter a new name. Enter only first name or first and last name. Choose a name that your friends can recognize.
   • If you choose not to use the display name, click Remove Name. Users will continue to see your username, but if it has nothing to do with you, your friends will have a hard time finding you.
6. 6 Click Save.
7. 7 Click on the Back arrow in the upper left corner of the screen. When sending messages and posting stories, Snapchat users will see the name of your choice.
