Tinder is a dating app that quickly gained popularity. Tinder uses your phone's GPS to pinpoint your location and find possible mates nearby. Tinder also lets you customize the search distance within which it searches for dating candidates. Change the maximum distance to display other Tinder users within a given radius.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Path to Search Range Settings

1. 1 Download Tinder and run it. Make sure you are connected to the internet and that the app has access to geolocation services such as GPS.
   • To do this, open the phone settings menu. Scroll down to the "location services" or "access to geodata" section for various features, including GPS. Turn it on.
   • Now you can move on to setting up Tinder itself.
2. 2 Click on the gear icon in the upper left corner of the screen, to the left of the Tinder logo. This place is essentially a dashboard where users can change their profile settings. Here you can also specify the gender and age restrictions of the candidates, as well as the search range.
   • The required icon looks like a gray gear and is located in the upper left corner of the screen. It will take you to the settings menu. The first section on the control panel will be “Find options”. It is indicated by a green heart icon. Open it up.
   • You can also get here by swiping your finger from left to right inside the application. Here you will find a distance slider that allows you to change the search range.

Part 2 of 3: Adjusting the distance slider

1. 1 Move the distance slider. Shifting to the right will increase Tinder's search range, while shifting to the left will shrink it.
   • For example, the user's search range is set to 56 km. For most people, this distance is more than enough. This means that the program will find you people to meet within this radius. Open Find options to access general options. The Search Range slider is the penultimate parameter to adjust.
   • Adjust the slider according to your preference and click "Done" in the upper right corner of the screen. Move the slider under the inscription: "Search range" to the desired distance from 1 to 161 km.
2. 2 Swipe on Tinder. Tinder was one of the first "swipe" applications, where swiping a finger across the screen was used to select between photos of other users. Swipe right to select potential candidates and swipe left to move to the next person.
   • This is why sometimes you have to change the search range frequently. Let's say you decide to visit a gym and want to find active users. Set the range to minimum and then increase it to 5 km.
   • The main reason for setting a search range is to weed out potential candidates who live too far away from you.Most people use Tinder to meet people who live nearby or are just nearby.
   • You are unlikely to attract people from afar, as few people look for long-distance relationships on Tinder.

Part 3 of 3: Calculating the ideal range

1. 1 Consider how far you are willing to travel to meet the person. Your first time on Tinder is unlikely to worry about the length of your trip. But when you get a little more comfortable with it, you may have a fleeting thought that you don't mind long trips.
   • Be honest with yourself. Traveling 80 km for a mediocre date is clearly not worth it. An hour and a half drive to have coffee with someone who has more cats at home than bars of soap? Do not do that. You deserve the best.
   • When setting up your profile, you should consider which path you are willing to take. If you are young, your friend (s) may not have a car (then you or he / she will have to go all the way).
2. 2 Increase the range to see more candidates for the meeting. Set the maximum range to 8 km to display all users within that range that match your age and gender settings. If you set it to 1 km, Tinder will display all people within a 1 km radius of where you are now.
   • If you move to a different location, the center of the search radius will move with you, allowing you to meet new people. People change their search range to increase the number of likely candidates to meet because they've already looked at the nearest options. By default, this parameter is set to 80 km.
   • If you live in a large city, you can reduce it to 25 km. Increase the range if you live in a sparsely populated area.
