Although spiders are usually harmless, they can infest your car and damage the interior. If you want to prevent or eliminate a spider infestation, use one of several methods outlined in this article. Clean up the cabin, use natural anti-spiders, park your car and use your headlights in a different way. With a little effort, you will soon get rid of the spiders in your car!

Method 1 of 3: How to prevent spider infestations

1. 1 Remove trash and all unnecessary items from the car. Spiders hide in dark, secluded places they can find, so do your best to eliminate these places in your car. Throw away the trash and place any unnecessary items in a plastic or reusable bag. Put the bag in the trunk and take it out of the car as soon as possible and leave it at home.
2. 2 Wash your car and vacuum the interior thoroughly. Spiders love to hide in dark, dirty places. Spend some time cleaning so that spiders don't have a chance to settle somewhere in the salon. Vacuum the floor, paying special attention to corners and crumbs, and remember to wipe down everywhere.
   • Try to clean the car at least once a week to prevent spiders from entering the car.
3. 3 Doors must be tightly closed. Run your fingers over the rubber seal along each door and check for damage.If you find cracks or chips, hire a mechanic to repair or replace the rubber seal.
   • Since spiders can enter the car through small holes, the rubber seal should prevent them.
   • If you see dirt or debris on the elastic, wipe it down with a wet rag to improve its effectiveness.
4. 4 Do not leave the car running for a long time. The vibrations of a turned on car can scare spiders, so when they start scattering, some of them may hide in the cabin. Try to start the car only when absolutely necessary, especially if spiders often enter the car.
   • Spiders move in the direction of the started car, and not away from it, as they seek to find an "epicenter" where vibrations will not harm them. This behavior is similar to taking refuge in the eye of a hurricane.
   • The larger the car, the more likely it will attract spiders.

Method 2 of 3: Spider Relief

1. 1 Make an essential oil spray to naturally repel spiders. Due to their strong smell and taste, some essential oils can repel spiders and other insects. Take a spray bottle and mix 5-7 drops of essential oil with 2 glasses (480 ml) of water, then spray this mixture around the perimeter of the car. The following essential oils are especially effective against spiders:
   • citrus;
   • rosemary;
   • garlic;
   • mint;
   • lavender.
2. 2 Scatter eucalyptus leaves around your car if you want to use a non-toxic spider spray. Eucalyptus leaves are a natural plant-scented spider remedy. Place fresh eucalyptus leaves in various compartments of your car (such as the trunk or glove compartment) to keep spiders away from certain areas.
   • Eucalyptus leaves can be ordered online or purchased from your local nursery.
3. 3 Spray the interior of your car with a non-toxic spider spray if you need a quick-acting remedy. Spider remedies are sold at home improvement stores, gardening stores, and hardware stores. Look for a product that says “non-toxic” on the packaging to prevent skin poisoning or irritation. Spray vents, rearview mirrors, tires and under the hood, as these are the four spots where spiders are most likely to hide. Apply once a week to prevent future infestations.
   • Since you and other people will be sitting in the car, do not use a poisonous spider spray.
   • If you see spiders in other places of the car, you can spray them too. Most importantly, do not let the medium get on the electronics, such as the radio or the charging port.
   • Use a cotton swab to apply the product to the rubber seal on the doors.

Method 3 of 3: Stop Spider Invasion

1. 1 Catch and get rid of all the spiders in your car. Get rid of any spiders you find while cleaning to prevent them from laying eggs. Catch the spider with a glass or with your hands, then kill it or release it away from the car.
   • If you don't want to touch the spiders, place sticky traps where you saw them.
2. 2 Vacuum everywhere in your car. Put on the special nozzle on the tube of the vacuum cleaner and remove all the egg bags, cobwebs and any spiders you find. Pay special attention to corners, as well as areas under rugs and seats. Be sure to also clean up dirt, crumbs and other debris as they can attract spiders.
   • After vacuuming in the car, take out the bag of the vacuum cleaner and throw it away from the car so that the spiders cannot return.
   • The egg sacs are small, gray, silky, oval-shaped lumps.
3. 3 Turn off the interior lights when using the car. Spiders are attracted by bright light, therefore, if spiders are in the car, we advise you not to turn on the light in the cabin. When you turn on your headlights at night, try to turn them off immediately after you park your car.
   • If someone in the car uses electronic devices, ask him to reduce the brightness of the screen.
4. 4 Repair cracks and holes to prevent spiders from getting into the car. Spiders are able to squeeze through cracks, gaps or holes in the car's skin. Inspect the car for damage, especially holes that lead to the passenger compartment, and fix them yourself or go to a car repair shop. Eliminate open areas to make it harder for spiders to get into the car.
   • This only applies to cracks, gaps and holes resulting from damage. Do not try to seal up doors, vents, windows, or pipes.
   • For example, if your car has a broken or cracked windshield, repair it yourself or hire a mechanic to fix it as soon as possible.

Tips

• Diesel cars are more likely to attract spiders because of their size and their tendency to vibrate when the car is started. Do not use or buy a diesel car if you are worried about a spider infestation.
• If you are having trouble getting rid of spiders on your own, hire a pest control officer to assess the extent of the problem and relieve you of it.
