1 Remove any existing nail polish. Use a cotton pad moistened with nail polish remover to remove the polish from your nails. Rub your nails from side to side and make sure that no polish remains even on the edges of the nail plates.

• Be careful not to let the cotton fibers get stuck in the crack of the nail. Try to rub the nail polish in the direction of the crack.

2 Use scissors to cut the top of the tea bag and empty it. Use scissors to cut the top off an unused tea bag. You will use this particular tea bag to restore the nail, so keep the paper intact, and you can just throw the tea in the trash.

3 Cut a nail patch from the tea bag. Depending on the exact location of the crack, cut out a rectangular piece of paper that will completely cover the cracked nail and protrude slightly from the tip. For example, if your nail is only cracked at the tip, cut a rectangle out of the tea bag that will cover the nail by about half. If the crack in your nail has spread beyond the tip, cut out a rectangle of paper so that it reaches the cuticle.

• Make sure that the edges of the tea bag patch reach down to your nail sinuses.
• When you apply the patch to your nail, you can leave the protruding edge as it is. You will remove the excess later.

Part 2 of 2: Repairing a cracked nail

1. 1 Cover the cracked nail with a colorless base coat. Apply a thin layer of colorless base polish to the nail. Be sure to paint over the cracked area of ​​the nail plate. The clear varnish will act as the glue that holds the paper patch in place.
2. 2 Apply a paper patch to your nail. While the clear polish is still wet, gently place a rectangular teabag patch over your nail to close the crack. Use your finger or an orange stick to smooth out the paper gently so that no air bubbles remain under the patch. Let the varnish dry for about five minutes.
3. 3 Wait until the varnish hardens. Wait for the clear polish to dry, and then carefully cut off any excess paper that protrudes from the tip of the nail.
   • It is permissible to leave a little paper protruding beyond the edge of the nail, since it can be grinded off with a nail file a little later, when it is no longer so flimsy.
4. 4 Cover the nail with a second coat of colorless base. When the patch is already firmly attached to the nail, apply another layer of colorless base polish on it. Be sure to completely paint your nail all the way to the edge of the paper patch. Let this coat dry for 5-10 minutes.
   • At this point, the teabag paper patch will still be visible.
5. 5 Remove excess paper from the tea bag. When the second coat of clear nail polish is dry, use a nail file to file off excess paper from the tip of the nail in one direction.
   • The file will help you to neatly get rid of any excess paper protruding from the edge of your nail.
6. 6 Cover the nail with another layer of colorless base. To fix everything completely, apply another layer of colorless base varnish to the nail. This time, be sure to paint over the tip of the nail where you grinded off the excess paper. Let this layer of varnish dry for at least 10 minutes. When the nail is already fixed with paper and three layers of varnish, it is advisable not to make mistakes.
   • It is necessary to paint over the abraded tip of the nail in order to prevent peeling and splitting of the paper.
7. 7 Paint your nails as usual. When the restored nail is completely dry, paint your nails as usual.Try to apply only a thin layer of colored varnish to the cracked nail, as it already has three layers of colorless base on it, which will take longer to dry.

Warnings

• Alternatively, you can use nail glue instead of a colorless base polish to repair a cracked nail. However, this glue is very difficult to remove and can potentially harm your nail. Colorless base varnish is much easier to remove.
