Want to add videos to your iPod? You can do this if you have an iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Nano 3rd generation or later.Depending on the video you want to add, its format and quality, the methods may vary slightly, so make sure the method you choose is appropriate for your situation.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Purchase from iTunes

1. 1 Visit the iTunes Store. Any video purchased from the iTunes Store will play on your iPod.
2. 2 Pay for the video and download it.
3. 3 Connect iPod to iTunes.
4. 4 Choose a video for your iPod.
5. 5 Sync your iPod.

Method 2 of 4: Convert Files for iTunes

1. 1 Decide on the format. Your iPod can only play .m4v, .mp4, or .mov files. Your video must be in .mov format. If it isn't, you need to convert it. If the video works, just add it to iTunes and sync your iPod.
2. 2 Conversion using Apple apps. If you have a Mac, use QuickTime Pro to convert your file to an iPod-compatible format.
   • Download and install QuickTime Player Pro 7.0.3.
   • Select and import your video file.
   • Click on File -> Export.
   • In the drop-down list, select Movie for iPod.
   • A new file will be created on your desktop. Add it to iTunes and sync your iPod.
3. 3 Conversion using third-party applications. There are several third party converter apps available for download on the internet.
   • For Windows, Videora, PQDVD, 3GP Convert, Leawo Free iPod Converter, Any Video Converter, or Handbrake are suitable.
   • For Mac, you can get Handbrake or VideoMonkey.
   • If you are having difficulty using the program, search the forums by searching for "[program name] forum".

Method 3 of 4: Importing a video with a suitable format

1. 1 Open iTunes.
2. 2 Select Movies.
3. 3 Please select File -> Import. The video will be added to iTunes.
4. 4 Highlight the video you want.
5. 5 Please select Advanced -> Convert for iPod.
6. 6 You can also right click on the video and select this item.
7. 7 Check the file you created to sync.
8. 8 Sync iPod with iTunes.

Method 4 of 4: Potential Problems

1. 1 Check if everything works. If the video plays, but there is no sound, it means that your file is multiplexed or has an incompatible format. If the file is multiplexed, it means that the audio and video tracks are not separated, but mixed. This problem can be solved as follows:
   • Open the original video in QuickTime Player.
   • On the menu Window choose Show video details.
   • In the video details window, click More details.
   • Pay attention to the information in the field Format.
   • If "MPEG1 Muxed" or "MPEG2 Muxed" is specified, the audio track of your video file is incompatible with your iPod, iTunes, and QuickTime. There is nothing you can do about it except download a third-party app and convert the video again.

Tips
