Artificial acrylic stone is a budget alternative to quartz, granite and marble countertops. This material consists of acrylic and minerals, the combination of which makes it possible to obtain a very hard and non-porous surface. Almost any detergent and cleaner that does not contain overly abrasive components will work for the worktop.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Daily Cleaning

  1. 1 Wipe up spilled liquid promptly. As with any surface, it is better to wipe the stains right away. After a while, they can dry out, as a result of which the process will become more complicated. Since Corian countertops are non-porous, spills will not be able to absorb, so wiping off the stain with a clean, damp cloth is easy.
    • Be sure to dry the surface immediately after cleaning, otherwise a film will appear on it over time.
  2. 2 Use warm water and a dish sponge. If the stain is dry, use warm soapy water to clean. Apply a drop of dishwashing liquid to a sponge, dampen with water and lather. Remove the stain and then rinse with clean warm water.
  3. 3 Ammonia detergents. If dishwashing liquid and water cannot remove the stain, use an ammonia-based cleaner. Spray or apply with a sponge, then wipe the surface clean. Remember to rinse with clean water and dry the countertop to prevent streaks.
    • Read the directions on the label before using any product.
    • Test the product first on an unsightly countertop to avoid accidentally ruining the entire surface.
    • Do not use glass cleaner, although it contains ammonia. After such a tool, a film may remain on the surface. Better to choose a household cleaner.
  4. 4 Non-abrasive cleaning products. If you do not have an ammonia solution, use another non-abrasive product. Corian countertops are easy to scratch, so don't buy an abrasive product. Apply the product to the surface and wipe with a clean damp cloth.
    • You can leave the product on for one to two minutes to improve its effectiveness.
    • Rinse the surface with clean water and dry.
    • Do not mix different types of cleaning agents, otherwise toxic gases may be generated.

Part 2 of 3: Stubborn stains

  1. 1 Cleaning agent containing oxalic acid. Oxalic acid helps get rid of brown spots, especially on white surfaces. Such a tool can be purchased at any hypermarket.Among the popular products with this component are “Sarma” and “Sanox”.
    • Apply the cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes, then pick up with a rag and rinse with clean water. Remember to dry the surface.
    • Sometimes a second cleaning is required to get rid of the stain completely.
  2. 2 Bleach products. For white Corian countertops, you can use a product that contains bleach. The material is resistant to bleach if not left on the surface for more than 16 hours. You can also make a mixture of bleach and water (the bleach content should not exceed 50 percent).
    • Leave the product on for a few minutes to allow the product to penetrate deeper into the stain, then rinse the countertop with clean water.
    • If the surface is not white, the bleach may discolor the countertop. Before cleaning a colored surface, test the product on an unsightly countertop first.
  3. 3 Use a limescale remover. Such products allow you to remove plaque from hard (lime) water. As a rule, they contain acid, which destroys limescale and scale. Apply the product to the countertop and let it sit for 5 minutes. Collect the substance with a rag, rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
    • Sometimes a second cleaning is required to get rid of plaque completely.

Part 3 of 3: General Care Tips

  1. 1 Do not use a hard sponge. Do not use hard-sided sponges or use only the soft side. In addition, do not clean the countertop with steel wool or other rough materials. Any hard material will leave scratches on the surface.
  2. 2 Use a microfiber cloth to clean. This type of napkin is best suited for the maintenance of the countertop. It does an excellent job of removing stains without scratching the surface. These wipes can be found in hypermarkets, supermarkets, and general hardware stores.
  3. 3 Do not use harsh solvents or products containing acetone. Drain pipe cleaners can severely damage the surface of the Corian worktop. Acetone can also cause irreparable damage. Nail polish stain can be removed from the surface with a nail polish remover, but make sure it is free of acetone.
    • Also, do not use other harsh chemicals such as paint remover or oven cleaner to avoid damaging the countertop.
  4. 4 Avoid exposure to heat. Corian countertops are heat resistant, but it is best not to expose the surface to high temperatures. Always use a rack for hot pots and pans. It also doesn’t hurt to use a rack for heating utensils like a toaster.
  5. 5 Polish up minor scratches. Corian countertops are not uncommon for scratches, but minor damage can be repaired on your own. For this, we recommend using DuPont polishing pads, which are becoming increasingly soft. You can also use a scouring powder such as Comet and a non-scratch Scotch-Brite abrasive pad, or fine sandpaper (28-40 microns) with a waterproof backing.
    • When using DuPont polishing pads or sandpaper, clean the countertop and leave the surface damp. Take a napkin (or paper) and work the scratch in one direction. Change your direction of movement from time to time and work perpendicularly. Rinse the tissue or paper under water to remove dust. Continue rubbing until the scratch is gone. Sometimes it is necessary to treat a large enough surface area or use a finer material to make the surface look uniform.
    • When using a Scotch-Brite abrasive cloth, first wash the countertop and leave the surface damp. Apply Comet powder and start working around the scratch in circular motions. Then move along the scratch. In this situation, it may also be necessary to process a large surface area to make it look uniform.
    • In the case of deep scratches, it is recommended to consult a specialist.

Tips

  • Avoid cutting food or preparing food directly on the Corian countertop.

Warnings

  • Never mix cleaning agents, otherwise toxic gases may be generated.
