Thrift is that way of life when a person lives within their means. Thrift is when you spend less than you earn. Thrift is a crisis situation in which you always have a supply of funds. In general, a useful skill. Many people cultivate it in themselves, and for good reason. Yes, sometimes you will be able to save only a penny ... but do you remember that a penny saves a ruble?

Steps

  1. 1 Track your spending. You can't spend less if you don't know what you are spending on. Spend money as usual, but write down every purchase, every penny - for a week, two, a month! This is necessary so that you can understand where the money is going.
  2. 2 Analyze your spending habits. Each spending is either fixed, or non-fixed, or arbitrary. The first type of spending is mandatory spending, which is always at the same level and does not depend on your decisions. Let's say paying rent or insurance. The second type of spending is mandatory expenses that you can influence to one degree or another, for example, the cost of gasoline or utilities. The third group of expenses is optional, such expenses can be avoided altogether. For example, drinking, having fun, going to a restaurant, and so on.
  3. 3 Spend less.
    • Forget about all the arbitrary spending that does not bring you pleasure. For example, if you dislike your coworkers, don't drop off for your birthday.
    • Reduce all your arbitrary spending in order, so to speak, to get maximum pleasure for a ruble of money. For example, it is better to go to a decent restaurant once a month than to go to McDonald's once a week - and you will save money, and there will be more pleasure.
    • Consider if your floating costs can be reduced. We'll give you some tips below, so don't switch!
  4. 4 Pay off your debts. Debt is always a waste. It is a wise decision to give up all arbitrary spending until you pay off your debts. You yourself understand that the interest that will be charged from you for a debt is not at all a joy. And getting into debt isn't all that necessary ...
  5. 5 Save up for whatever you want to buy. Consumer loans ?! Forget it! Cash only! Believe me, this way you will save money, and you will save a lot.
  6. 6 Celebrate your successes. Enjoy what you own, knowing that you've worked hard to get those things. Notice, by the way, how easy it will be for you to feel at ease when you know that money is in a safe place. Share your lean tips with others along the way. Think positively about frugality!
  7. 7 Continue to reduce your spending. In any budget, there is always a little fat to cut. Be thrifty! Don't waste your money! Read the tips below, think about what works best for you, and put it into practice!

Tips

  • Prepare your own food. Restaurants are expensive because you pay for the service, atmosphere and table. Cook at home yourself, you will save a lot of money! And if you also have your own vegetable garden, then the savings will be enormous.
  • Use what you already have. Not buying something is always cheaper than buying something. Look around, do you have something in your house that you can use to solve this or that problem? Maybe you can do something yourself?
  • Buy reusable products. In the long run, throwing things away and buying new ones is much more expensive than buying one reliable item. Good example: washable diapers and nappies.
  • Replace only what objectively needs to be replaced. Instead of buying a new print cartridge every time it runs out of ink, you can buy ink and a syringe and refill the cartridge yourself. Do you dare?
  • Compare prices and products. If the same product comes under different brands, then it's time to start comparing prices and volume-weight. Sometimes a product in a large pack is cheaper (in terms of kilograms). Keep in mind that the best prices for everything are rarely found in the same store. In the case of large purchases, you can save a lot by looking for a better deal.
  • Use public transport. Save on gas - one, the car will have less mileage - two. By the way, if you sell a car (if it's realistic for you, of course), then you can save a lot, just a lot!
  • Fix what's broken. Very often the whole fix consists of a drop of glue or a new coat of paint. Even if you need a special tool to fix it ... sometimes it will be cheaper to buy one than to constantly buy new things!
  • Never use a credit card. Yes, easy to say, but difficult to do ... and still! After all, you still have to give the loan and borrowed funds back! Isn't it true that this multiplies the practicality of the loan, if not by zero, then by a figure close to it? Save money by using debit cards and checkbooks if you don't have time for frequent visits to the bank for cash.
  • Borrow things from friends and neighbors. Often, you don't need to have this or that item on hand at all times. Perhaps the thing will be needed only from time to time. If you have a good reputation (i.e.if you return things on time, and whole), then you can save money by borrowing the necessary things from relatives and neighbors! For example, if you are not an avid tourist, then there is no point in buying a tent - it is enough to borrow it from, say, a neighbor a couple of times a year!
  • Don't chase brands. Even children know that you have to pay for a brand. You can always find cheaper (and sometimes even better) alternatives whose brand will not be so well known.
