This article will show you how to delete a message from your Facebook Messenger conversation.You can delete only one message at a time, not several messages (in both mobile and desktop versions of Messenger). Keep in mind that the deleted message will disappear only on your device - this message will remain on the device of your interlocutor (s).
Steps
Method 1 of 2: On a mobile device
1 Open Facebook Messenger. Click on the Messenger app icon, which looks like a blue speech cloud with a white lightning bolt. The current correspondence will open (if you are already logged in to Messenger).
- If you're not already signed in to Messenger, enter your phone number and password when prompted.
2 Select a correspondence. Click on the conversation with the message you want to delete. You may have to scroll down to find the correspondence you want.
- If you have opened a conversation in Messenger that you are not interested in at the moment, click the "Back" button in the upper left corner.
- If there are no current conversations on the screen, go to the "Home" tab.
3 Tap and hold the message. Find the message you want to delete, and then press and hold it. A menu will open.
- On iPhone, this menu is at the bottom of the screen, and on Android, in the middle of the screen.
4 Please select Delete. You will find this option in the menu.
5 Click on Deletewhen prompted. The message will be deleted from your device, but not from the device of your interlocutor (s).
6 Delete all correspondence. For this:
- find the correspondence you want to delete;
- press and hold the conversation until the pop-up menu opens;
- tap Delete Conversation (iPhone) or Delete (Android);
- select "Delete Conversation" when prompted.
Method 2 of 2: On a computer
1 Open the Facebook site. Go to https://www.facebook.com/ in your browser. A news feed will open (if you are logged into your Facebook account).
- If you haven't logged in to Facebook yet, enter your email address (or phone number) and password.
2 Click on the Messenger icon. It looks like a speech cloud with a lightning bolt and is located in the upper-right side of the Facebook page. A dropdown menu will open.
3 Click on Everyone in Messenger. It's in the lower-left corner of the drop-down menu. The Facebook Messenger web app will open.
4 Select a correspondence. Click on the conversation with the message you want to delete.
- You may have to scroll down to find the correspondence you want (in the left pane).
5 Hover your mouse over the message you want to delete. The message will display two icons: a smiley face and three dots.
6 Click on ⋯. This icon is located to the right of a received message or to the left of a sent message. A pop-up option will open.
7 Click on Delete. This is the pop-up option next to the "⋯" icon.
8 Click on Deletewhen prompted. It's a red button. The message will be deleted from your device, but not from the device of your interlocutor (s).
9 Delete all correspondence. For this:
- select a correspondence;
- click on the gear icon
in the upper right part of the correspondence;
- you may need to click on the "" icon (right) first;
- click "Delete" (in the drop-down menu);
- click "Delete" when prompted.
Tips
- If someone annoys you in Messenger, don't delete their messages, just block them.
Warnings
- The message will be deleted from your account, but not from the account of your interlocutor.
