Have you decided to buy an iPhone? Want a new iPhone 5S? Then you will need to activate your iPhone through Verizon before using it. This is a fairly straightforward process. It only takes a few minutes. Read on to find out how to activate your iPhone.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Activating a New iPhone

1. 1 Save all your contacts. If you have an old iPhone, save all your contacts to iTunes before activating Verizon. Then all saved contacts will be transferred to your new iPhone.
   • Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. iTunes needs to be updated to the latest version.
   • Use iTunes to sync your contacts to your computer or iCloud. Turn off iPhone after backing up contacts.
   • If your previous phone was not an iPhone, you must back up your contacts in a different way, depending on your phone model.
2. 2 Turn on 4G LTE. This step is only necessary for those who already have a Verizon account. If you don't have an iPhone, call (877)807-4646 in the US. You must have a receipt for the paid service, which you will need to provide when registering by phone.
3. 3 Activate your iPhone. Turn on your iPhone. Your phone should automatically start the activation process. Click Use Cellular Connection.
   • If you don't have a signal, you can connect your iPhone to your computer and use iTunes to activate. Click the “Connect to iTunes” button. You can also use a Wi-Fi connection to activate.
   • You need to read and agree to the License Agreement.
   • Activation will take about 3 minutes, during which time the phone does not receive calls and SMS.
   • Some older iPhones must be activated via iTunes.
4. 4 Complete the installation process. After you activate your phone, you will need to complete the process of setting up your iPhone. For example, create or sign in to your iCloud profile and restore your saved contacts.
5. 5 Install an answering machine. Tap on the phone app (handset icon) and select Answering machine. Install an answering machine.

Method 2 of 2: Activating a Non-New iPhone Phone

1. 1 Back up your contacts. Make sure you back up all your contacts before activating iPhone. On an iPhone phone, you can do this using iCloud or iTunes. On other phones, such as Android devices, you'll need to find instructions on how to back up your contacts on the manufacturer's website or online.
2. 2 You need to know your phone number and security code.
3. 3 Dial the Verizon activation line. Dial * 288 on your iPhone and press Send. Select 1 option from the menu to start the activation process. When you enter your phone number and security code, your phone will be activated.
   • It will take a few minutes to activate your phone.
4. 4 Activate your phone manually. You can do this online. For example, through the My Verizon website in a browser. Log into your profile on the My Verizon website and select the “Activate Device” option from the Devices menu.
   • You will need the ESN / MEID number of your iPhone. You can find this number by opening Settings on your phone, then General Settings, then opening device information. Scroll down and find the number you want.
   • You will need to confirm the choice of the tariff plan when activating the iPhone in the network. When finished, click Submit.
   • Dial * 228 on your iPhone and press 1. The phone will be activated in a few minutes.
5. 5 Restore all your contacts using your saved backups. Now you can open iTunes or iCloud to start the contact recovery process.
6. 6 Install an answering machine. Open the phone app (handset icon) and select Voicemail. Set up your autoresponder.
