If you do not want others to view or search for your profile page with your Instagram posts, you do not need to delete the account, but can disable it temporarily. This prevents others from tampering with your account, and photos and videos will be kept private until you decide to restore your account without backing up. However, you cannot temporarily lock an account using the Instagram app.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Temporary account lockout

1. 

   Visit the Instagram website at https://www.instagram.com/. If logged in, you will be taken to the Instagram homepage.
   • If not logged in, select Log in (Login) at the bottom of the page, type in your username and password and click Log in.

   Click on the personal page icon with a human figure, located in the upper right corner of the page.

   Click the button Edit Profile (Edit Profile) right to your username at the top of the page.

   Scroll down and click the link Temporarily disable my account (Temporarily disabling the account) is located on the right, bottom of "Edit Profile" page.

   Indicate the reason for blocking the account. Click in the box to the right of the heading "Why are you disabling your account?" (Why did you disable your account?) And choose a reason.

6. 

   Enter your Instagram password in the box to the right of "To continue, please re-enter your password" (To continue, please re-enter your password).

7. 

   Click Temporarily Disable Account at the bottom of the page.

8. 

   Click OK when prompted. Your account will be disabled and signed out of all linked devices. advertisement

Part 2 of 2: Recovering your account

1. 

   Log into Instagram. Using your username and password to log into Instagram, your account will be reactivated as before. After logging into the Instagram website, you still have to proceed with login on each other device. advertisement

Advice

• You can activate your account at any time, just log in again.
  
• You need to wait at least a few hours to re-login if you deactivated it not long ago. Account may take several hours to complete the deactivation process. If you can't login yet, just wait and try again later.

Warning

• Although your friends and followers won't be able to find you because your account is immediately locked, the archived posts may still appear on Google search results. It takes a few weeks for them to disappear.
