"The Sims 3" is the first game in the series that allows you to download it to your computer to enjoy instead of having to buy a game disc to install. You can choose to pay to download the game from the game's official website, or you can use a torrent to reload the game if the game disc you once purchased is unfortunately lost or damaged. Method 1 of 3: Use the Origin Program

   Download the Origin program. Origin is an extensive game management software released by EA, including The Sims 3. Origin is a free software that can be downloaded from EA's Origin website.

   Create Account. To be able to use Origin and purchase the game, you need to create an account. You can create an account after Origin is installed, or you can also create one on Origin's website first and install the program.
   • You need to fill in a valid address and credit card number in order to purchase games on Origin.
   • Sign in to the account you signed up for and start using Origin.

   • Many results will be listed because The Sims is a game that comes with quite a few expansion versions. Use the "Refine Results" menu on the top left-hand side of the list of results and open the "Game Type" option. Then select "Base Games".
   • You can choose between The Sims 3 and The Sims 3 Starter Pack. The Starter Pack will include the first version of the game and some expansion packs.
   • If you purchase the game via the Mac or PC download method on Amazon, Origin will be downloaded automatically.

   Download starts. Once purchased, the game will be listed under "My Games". Here is a complete list of Origin games you have purchased. Click the The Sims 3 icon and click the Download button. You can choose to display the game icon on your computer's main screen or show the link in the Start menu. Click the Download Now button to begin the installation.

   Create Account. To be able to use the Steam software and purchase The Sims 3, you need to create an account. You can create an account after you have installed Steam or you can also create an account on the Steam website first and then install the program.
   • You need to fill in a valid address and credit card number in order to purchase games on Steam.

   Buy game. Open the Steam program and proceed to login. Click the "STORE" link at the top of the screen. There will be a Search bar at the top of the Store page. Type "Sims 3" into the search bar and you can either select The Sims 3 from one of the automated results, or you can click the magnifying glass icon to see the results.
   • After confirming the game purchase, you will be given the option to install the game now or install it later.

   Install the game. You can either click the "Install" button that appears after you've confirmed your game purchase, or you can click the link to "LIBRARY" at the top of the Steam screen. List of games that you buy on Steam will be displayed. Right-click on the game in the list and select "Install game".
   • Notice of computer drive space required by the game and free disk space you have on your computer will appear.
   • The game download and installation process is displayed on the game list. The download speed and the percentage of successfully downloaded file are displayed next to the game title.

Method 3 of 3: Use Torrents

   Install the game. Games downloaded from torrents are usually installed differently than games you buy on the ground. See the README file that is usually included in torrent files for specific instructions on how to crack the game and install the game.
   • Crack allows you to use the game without having to enter the CD key. If you have never bought a genuine game disc and used this way to play games for free, this is illegal. You should only use this method if you have ever bought a game disc but the disc is damaged or you forgot the CD key.
