This article guides you on how to fix the fullscreen error arising when watching YouTube using Google Chrome. This error may cause part of your browser or desktop to be displayed while in full screen mode, or worse, that the feature is turned off. Usually restarting your browser or computer can solve the problem, but if that doesn't work you need to customize some settings to prevent the full screen error from occurring.

Method 1 of 5: Use basic tips

1.

    Allow updates to be installed when notified. If Chrome asks you about the update, click Update Google Chrome and wait for the update to install.
    • If Google Chrome has been updated, skip this step and go to the next step.

    Click the button Relaunch when possible. Once the update is installed, you should see this button. Once clicked, Chrome will be closed and reopened.

    Try watching YouTube in full screen mode. Re-enter your video and click the "full screen" icon in the lower right of the play window. The video will now play in full screen mode.
    • If your video is still not playing in full screen, try one of the ways below.

    Restore Chrome to its default settings. This fixes the full screen, but also removes the current setting:
    • Click ⋮ in the upper right corner.
    • Click Settings (Setting).
    • Scroll down and click Advanced (Advanced).
    • Scroll down and click Restore settings to their original defaults (Restore the settings to factory defaults).
    • Click Reset settings (Reset settings) when notified.

    Uninstall Google Chrome then install it again. This step helps you force Chrome to update if you know that a new version is available, but Chrome won't update it.
    • You can reinstall Chrome by going to https://www.google.com/chrome/, clicking Download Chrome (Download Chrome), click Accept and Install (Accept and Install), double-click the downloaded installation file, then follow the on-screen instructions.
