Manic Panic is a semi-permanent plant hair dye with a variety of vibrant colors. Before dyeing, make sure your hair color is bright enough to eat it by bleaching if necessary. Use a hair dye brush to spread the dye evenly over your hair and wait about 30 minutes to a few hours before rinsing the dye off with cold water. Once your hair is dry, you can enjoy your new hair color!

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Prepare hair before dyeing

  1. Choose a Classic that lasts 4-6 weeks. This is the usual semi-temporary dye of Manic Panic. If you want to try a new color this is a great option, as it only holds color for up to 6 weeks.
    • If you are going to bleach your hair to give it a better color, you will also need to purchase a hair bleach set.
    • You can buy Classic dye at cosmetic stores or online.

  2. Choose Amplified dyes if you want a color that lasts up to 8 weeks. Amplified dyes are up to 30% more pigmented than the regular Classic, resulting in a longer color retention. You can choose an Amplified dye you like on the Manic Panic website.
    • Prepare to bleach your hair before using Amplified dye if you want the color to look great.

  3. Cover the dyeing area to prevent staining. Spread newspaper or plastic bags over the work surface. Spread layers for safety, and be sure to stay away from carpets or furniture that you don't want to get dirty.
    • The bathroom or kitchen is a good place to dye your hair.
    • Garbage bag will help you to protect the working surface effectively.

  4. Hair bleaching for optimal results. If you have darker hair or want very vivid hair color, it's best to bleach your hair with the Manic Panic Flash Lightning hair remover. Read the instructions for use that come with the kit, and mix the bleach thoroughly with the dye dye before evenly applying bleach to your hair.
    • Hair removal kit includes nylon gloves, bleach powder, dye enhancer, plastic mixing bowl, dye brush and nylon hood.
    • The retention time will depend on your natural hair color, so check every 10 minutes to see how bright the hair color has been.
    • Wash your hair several times with shampoo to make sure the bleach is rinse thoroughly.
    • Pre-bleaching is especially important if you want to dye your hair pastel (light color).
  5. Wash and wait for the hair to dry completely before dyeing. Use regular shampoo or clarifying shampoo (deep cleansing shampoo), make sure to wash thoroughly and rinse thoroughly. Let your hair dry naturally or dry it thoroughly before dyeing it.
    • Do not use conditioner after shampooing, as conditioner will prevent the color from adhering to your hair.
  6. Apply Vaseline cream along the hairline to avoid staining your skin. Use your fingers to apply Vaseline cream around the ears and neck so that the color doesn't get on the skin. Do not let the cream stick to your hair, otherwise the dye will not penetrate well.
    • Vaseline cream will be rinsed off once the dyeing process is complete.
  7. Pre-test the dye on your hair to see how it affects your hair. The color test will help you know exactly what your hair color will look like after dyeing. Select a small portion of hair in the shadow and apply the dye to your hair. Wait 30 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Thoroughly dry your hair to see what color it is.
    • The hair test part only needs to be about 1.3 - 2.5 cm wide.
    • While a hair color test is optional, it's a good way to see how the dye will affect your hair before dyeing your entire head.
    • Test the skin reaction by dabbing the dye on your skin to make sure you are not allergic to the dye.

Part 2 of 2: Hair coloring

  1. Put on nylon gloves and old clothes before starting to dye. Wear gloves to prevent dye from sticking to hands. Choose clothes that you won't regret if they become stained, such as an old t-shirt or gym pants.
    • Sometimes the hair dye kit comes with plastic gloves. Please check first to avoid having to buy excess.
  2. Apply the dye to your hair, starting at about 1.3 -2.5 cm from the roots. Use the brush to apply the dye to your hair, one at a time. Starting at a distance from the hairline, brush the dye down each strand of hair down to the ends. If you want, you can use your fingers (gloves!) To apply the dye to each strand of hair more thoroughly.
    • Try separating your hair into sections to make it easier to dye.
    • Short hair usually only needs half a bottle of dye, long hair requires a whole bottle.
  3. Spread the dye onto the hairline last, then brush through the hair. You should apply the dye to the roots of the hair last, as the roots will become colored fastest. Use a brush all over your hair to spread the dye evenly. The dye will bubble once it is soaked in your hair.
    • If you don't see the dye bubbling up, apply more of it to your hair.
  4. Put the plastic cap on your head and wait at least 30 minutes. Wring your hair over the top of your head and put a plastic cap over your head. Let the dye soak into your hair for at least 30 minutes, and you can leave it on longer if you like.
    • If your hair has not absorbed enough dye, leave it on for at least 1 hour.
    • Set a timer so you know how long the dye has been in your hair.
    • Some people wash the dye off after 30 minutes, others may leave it on for several hours. You should check your hair color after 30 minutes to determine if you should leave it on for longer.
  5. Warm up your hair with a hairdryer to allow the dye to absorb more quickly. If you want to speed up the dyeing process, leave a plastic hood over your head and dry with a hairdryer. Move the dryer all over your head, remember not to touch the hood.
    • Only use a few hair dryers at a time, do not dry for 30 minutes.
  6. Rinse hair with cool water. Once you're satisfied with your dyed hair color, you can rinse the dye off the sink or shower with cold water. Try to flush the water away from your face so the dye doesn't stick to your skin.
    • If possible, use a stainless steel sink to avoid staining from the dye.
    • Rinse until the water is clear or only very light in color.
    • Consider rinsing your hair with water and vinegar for a more lasting color.
  7. Allow your hair to dry and style it as usual. After you've rinsed the dye, you can either dry your hair or let it air dry. Style your hair as you like and enjoy your new hair color!
    • To keep your new hair color alive, you should avoid using clarifying shampoo or washing your hair excessively. Avoid chlorine and salt water and do not stay in the sun for long.
