Carpet cleaning and carpet cleaning products are often expensive, but you can make your own at-home carpet cleaning solution to use with a carpet washer or regular household cleaning tools. Homemade carpet cleaners can be used to remove stains, treat high-traffic places and general cleaning. If a certain kind of detergent can't remove stubborn stains, you can try a variety of recipes and experiment until you find the right one.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Blending carpet cleaner

1. 

   Make a carpet cleaner and maintenance agent. This solution resembles the most commercial product, and your carpet will be clean, fresh, soft and fragrant. Mix the following ingredients into the bucket:
   • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of laundry detergent
   • ¼ cup (60 ml) of all-purpose detergent
   • 1 teaspoon OxiClean
   • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) fabric softener
   • 4 liters of hot water

   Create aromatic and non-toxic detergents. For families with children and pets, non-toxic cleaners are often a top priority, especially when used on everyday items like carpets. The preparation is as follows:
   • 1 cup (240 ml) of white vinegar
   • 2 cups (480 ml) water
   • 2 teaspoons (13 g) of salt
   • 15 drops of essential oils like lemon, lavender or pine oil

   Use glass cleaner to make a simple solution. Glass cleaner isn't just for glasses, and you can mix it with water to make a carpet cleaner in your home, car, and elsewhere.
   • To prepare this solution, you just need to mix hot water and glass cleaner like Windex with equal proportions.

   Try a stronger ammonia cleaner. Ammonia cleaners are stronger than regular cleaners, but you need to be very careful because ammonia is corrosive and can damage the skin, eyes, lungs and some materials. Put on gloves and carefully mix the bucket of the following ingredients:

   • ¼ cup (60 ml) ammonia

   • 1 cup (200 g) baking soda
   • 1 tablespoon (5 grams) of dried herbs or flowers

Part 2 of 3: Hand wash carpet

1. 

   Pour detergent into a spray bottle or spray bottle. To clean carpets or small spots, you will need to spray or sprinkle a thin, even layer of detergent on the carpet. The easiest way to do this is to pour the cleaning solution into a spray bottle and add the cleaning powder to the sprinkler to spread evenly.

Part 3 of 3: Using a carpet washer

1.

   Wait for the carpet to dry. Carpet washers use a large amount of detergent, so wait 24 hours after washing for the detergent to completely seep into the carpet and evaporate, and wait for the carpet to dry.

   Vacuum the carpet. Once the carpet is completely dry and there is no residue left on the carpet that you can handle by hand, you need to vacuum the entire carpet with a regular vacuum cleaner. This step will help remove any dirt on the carpet and complete the cleaning process.
   • Some carpet washers also have a vacuum cleaner. Do not press the button that activates the carpet wash mode when using the carpet washer as a vacuum cleaner.
