You can easily cook beets in a variety of ways. Steaming is the simplest way to maintain the nutritional content of beets. You can choose any beetroot cooking method as long as it tastes good.

  • Preparation time (steaming): 10 minutes
  • Cooking time: 15-30 minutes
  • Total time: 25-40 minutes

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Steaming beets

  1. Prepare a steamer. Fill the steamer with 5 cm of water and place the basket in the steamer.

  2. Boil water. You can boil the water while you prepare the beets. Gloves should be worn to prevent beets from getting on hands.
  3. Prepare the beets. Wash and scrub the beets. Use a sharp knife to cut off the stem and the end of the bulb. You should cut off the ends before cutting the beets.
    • You can keep the beets peel to preserve the color. The peel will be easier to peel once the beets are steamed.

  4. Place the prepared beets in the steaming basket. Make sure the steaming water is boiling. Replace the lid so that the heat cannot escape.
  5. Steam for 15-30 minutes. For large beets, slicing them in half will help the beets ripen evenly and quickly. You can try cutting beets into slices 1.3 cm thick.

  6. Check beets. Open the lid, then stab the beets with a fork or knife. If ripe, the beets will be soft and you can prick or pull out a fork / knife easily. If the beets are hard and can't penetrate or have the knife / fork inside, steam it for a while.
  7. Remove the steamer from the stove. When the beets are tender, you can remove the steamer from the stove. Let it cool, then use a paper towel to peel off the beets.
  8. Season the beets if desired. You can use steamed beets for other dishes or simply add extra virgin olive oil, vinegar or herbs.
    • Steamed beets can make a great appetizer when combined with flavored cheese or cereal.

Method 2 of 3: Boil beets

  1. Fill the pot with water and a pinch of salt. You can add half a teaspoon of salt to the water to add flavor to beets when boiled. Boil water over high heat.
  2. Prepare the beets. Wash and scrub away any dirt from the beets. Cut off the stalk, tail, and other extrins that are unnecessary. You can boil them whole or cut them into chunks to shorten the cooking time. You can also peel the beets before boiling.
    • You should peel the beets before cutting the beets into 2.5 cm thick pieces.
  3. Add the beets to the water. Make sure to cover the beets a few centimeters in water. When the water is boiling, carefully add the beets or pieces of beets to the water. Whole beets should be boiled for 45 minutes-1 hour, while cut beets only need to be boiled for 15-20 minutes.
    • Open the lid while boiling beets.
  4. Check beets. Open the lid, then stab the beets with a fork or knife. If ripe, the beets will be soft and you can prick or pull out a fork / knife easily. If the beets are hard and can't stick or have the knife / fork inside, boil it for a while.
  5. Remove the pot from the stove. Once the beets are softened, drain off the hot water and pour in cold water. Use a paper towel to remove the beets.
  6. Add seasoning if you like. You can use boiled beets for other dishes or mash and serve with butter. Beets can be seasoned with salt and pepper. advertisement

Method 3 of 3: Bake the beets

  1. Turn on the oven and prepare the beets. Turn the oven on 180ºC or mode number 4. Next, you'll wash and scrub the beets. If you want to roast whole, just cut off the stem and tail. If you want to slice the beets, you should peel the beets first and then split them apart.
    • Just keep the beets small. Large beets, if left on, will take longer to cook.
  2. Place the beets on a baking tray and top with olive oil. You can use 1 teaspoon of olive oil and stir it so that all the beets are covered with oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper on the beets. Cover the baking tray with aluminum foil.
  3. Place the tray in the oven. Bake for about 35 minutes, then remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes.
  4. Check beets. Open the lid and stab the beets with a fork or knife. If ripe, the beets will be soft and you can prick or pull out a fork / knife easily. If the beets are hard and can't pierce or have the knife or plate inside, cook for a while.
  5. Remove baking tray from oven and season with seasoning. Grilled beets often have a naturally sweet taste. You can sprinkle a little more Balsamic vinegar and serve it with crispy bread. advertisement
